No propaganda here--the Vietnam WAR was a complete and utter fiasco. We, as a nation, have always understood this, but somehow, in recent years--you've heard the saying, "polishing a turd," I'm sure.

Even GB Sr. understood this when he said that Desert Storm would not be another Vietnam (remember? If you don't, or choose not to, skip the rest and do some research, or just go shopping).

The life and death concern of kids in the 60s and early 70s was that they would be drafted into a war which served no purpose. They waited in horror until their "number" was called. Some escaped to Canada, some got married and had families and/or enrolled in college (which was not necessarily a guarantee of being bypassed).

Those who got their number called, and went, came back f***ed up in one way or another. If they came back. Those who were waiting and wondering were flipping out--protesting, throwing rocks, getting carted off in handcuffs in Army jeeps. I may have been very young, but I remember all of it very clearly, and I will never forget.

It doesn't really matter that W deserted the NG, because it was very nearly after the fact. And the dude needed rehab, after all (shnort!). But trying to stick it to someone for draft-dodging the Vietnam War? Wake up and think.

If you re-read the thread you will see that someone who did not serve was trying to "stick it" to someone who did.

If George H.W. Bush did say this then it was only in response to the calls by Kennedy and Kerry back in 1991 that Desert Storm WOULD be another Vietnam. They both openly predicted on the Senate floor that American solidiers would be coming back in black body bags by the thousands and they both voted against the use of force to liberate Kuwait from Saddam's Hitler like invasion. How long did that war last again? 41 days or something like that...

Then Kerry in 1998 changed his tune and wanted us to go to war to remove Saddam. Then we all know how he changed his tune again. And yesterday he votes against confirming Condi Rice for Sec. State.

Does this guy have any integrity left at all? I am still amazed at how the Democrats managed to nominate such a horrible candidate. Gephardt or Lieberman probably would have beaten Bush. It is just like the Santorum race coming up. If they do not get Casey to run, or worst yet if they get him to run and somehow they allow a challenger to enter the primary and defeat Casey, then it is another term for Ricky!

No he didn't change his tune, he wanted to put 40,000 more troops in Iraq (which is one of the many reasons why I refused to vote for him).

***I also find it funny that both Philly boy and RLC have avoided commenting on my two previous points. I don't think it would help with their paper thin argument to do so.

Lets not ignore the little fact that a major news corporation tried to influence a presidential election by publishing bogus information about one of the candidates. This should be enough to scare anybody who believes in the democratic prodcess.
I assume you are talking about Fox . . . or, maybe Sinclair Broadcasting.
