I would like to see you get nice stores like that, but I doubt it when all you are going to see is residential from now on. There is no money in it.
actually, whole foods is money. many developers see it as an asset that increases the value of their properties. I actually don;t like whole foods that much. I like fresh foods but I'm not organic nut. I'd rather head to the terminal than do all my shopping at whole foods. down on south st you have whole foods across form superfresh. that's ideal best of both worlds. BUT, whoel foods is a good alternative to the roxborough grocery stores that sell wilted produce.

I’m not knocking whole food fans, but no one interested in what you want. The money is in residential and they will milk and destroy the area for every penny then take off to the next gold mine. It has been done before.

The majority of yunkers, roxers and efallers are not granola folks. I think someone on here used the term "lunch meat set" which is probably much closer to the truth. Im with Count on this one. As a single guy, who lives 3 min away from Whole Foods...I shudder every time I leave that place. I buy the majority of my goods at Ackame, and the fruit/veg comes from WF.

I think WF needs a lesson on demographics. Granola folks in our neighborhood won't buy a Porsche but they will spend $3 extra on OJ if it's organic. My hubby hates to buy the girls new clothes ("why does she need another pair of shoes?") but spends $2/piece practically every day on organic smoothies for my 3 year old. 7 grain bread? Hubby will spend $5/loaf. The market is definitely there. Who is doing their retail research that doesn't understand this??

I'd build you a whole food, and then beat you over the head with an organic hoagie, but these developers won’t.

I'd prefer a turkey and cheese from sorrentino's but if you want to pay $10 for a hoagie, go ahead. ;-) my point is, that whole foods are being incorprated into developments all over the country b/c developers have found that they can then charge a premium for their units. this area is probably not one of those. with so many grocery stores already here. what I don't understand is how the pizza can be so bad with so much competition. anyways, malloy, I don't know if you should brag about ackame. I'd much prefer a decent produce and farmer's goods type place to a whole foods but hey, I just wish that acme on ridge would go away. it's a dump. reminds me of the one up the street when I was a kid. they had to renovate b/c everyone started shopping at genuardi's.

You may be on to something, Pug.

You can start an 'indie' deli in Rox that sells both fair trade and organic coffee. In addition, you can be the 1st in the area to sell organic hoagies! 3 hoagies and some juice will cost about $60. Frig 3 hoagies and a 2 litre for $15

(that will last about 3 months)

Cool NO more whole foods

I could be wrong but the original thread just asked a basic question on what retails stores they were trying to get to go under the projects.

I just remember when they built those and said to myself -- who the hell does the city think will pay a premium to be located in East Falls at the bottom of the projects -- I don't care how nice they look it is still the PROJECTS.

What the hell was the city thinking? Can we please get off of Whole foods -- no way in hell a grocery store or for that matter any store going to relocate there. unless somebody know something
