I was at the Four Horsemen once, but it was 5pm on a weekday just after they opened up following "winter break" (yeah, apparently it closes for a while during this time as the college kids are all home). It looks like a meat market college dance club. No interest in going back.
The coffee shop on Midvale (forget the name) is not too bad. Doesn't have as hip an ambiance as, say, Mugshots in Fairmount, but pretty decent all around. The music tends to be lame, they have some interior decorating flaws (like the crappy trash cans) and sometimes the staff workers seem as unkempt and disengaged as McDonald's associates.
But the coffee tastes fine to this novice coffee drinker. They have open mic, poetry readings, and a book club.
