Default Reservoir on Venice Island?

I've heard that the Water Department is installing a reservoir on Venice Island that would cause the elimination of the rec area. Is this true? Anyone know anything?

Yes and no ...

Yes, the water department needs to install a tank on Venice Island. The placement of the tank gave the community an opportunity to get a NEW recreation center. No, we are not losing the rec center for long. The Water Department has pledged monies to build a brand new recreation center. There have been a number of community meetings regarding the redesign of Venice Island and what goes where, and what it will look like and such.

There will be an update in tomorrow's MNC meeting

Great. The "rumor" that I heard was actually being repeated over and over at a social event that I was at, and I was worried.

Can you update us after the meeting?

The project got way out of hand. They were proposing covering the area of the island from Cotton to Lock St. with parking and then putting a "green" roof over it and calling it a "park". They were going to squeeze the rec. center to less space but proposed an indoor swimming pool. No money but big plans.

The grant for the master plan was expanded for three months so they could get back to planet earth. We're waiting for the next meeting.

It's likely the rec center will be closed for close to three years.

The rec center won't be back and what is put on VI will only benefit the people who now dictate the rules. Are input as tax payers will be to foot the bill as we are doing for all the new water lines going in around manayunk.

I have to say that these inconsistencies are indeed puzzling.

I was told by a business person in the area that the rec center was being completely eliminated. This was at the end of May.

Then, Prof Dave says that wasn't the case.

Now it appears that it is the case.

Makes you wonder if it wasn't the plan all along, and has been somehow disguised until now...
