Schuylkill Falls is located at Ridge and Calumet in East Falls. Eventually, there will be 300 homes and rental units available to people from a range of incomes. It replaces the old Schuylkill Falls, which I believe was low-income housing only.

For more information, here is the contact info for the Housing Authority.

Syc is right - it is a mixed income (but predominately low income housing project) which replaces the old high rise projects, which were imploded a number of years ago.

It has been built by a private developer under a contract with the Housing Authority. While there are some fair market units, I believe that most of the neighbors had hoped for a larger percentage of middle-income units.

I also believe that those who had lived in the units (and this may differ with this particular development since the high rises had been cleared of all people for several years prior to the implosiong) have some sort of priority standing in getting the new homes.

There are income requiremements to qualify for the purchase of these units - I'm not sure if any are rental.

As for Winter's request, look at the housing authority website as well as the site for the Philadelphia city office of housing and community development. There are listings for available properties on both.

Default Housing Development

I actually just saw on a Phila. Housing Authority website that Westrum will be developing market rate housing on this site at the top of the hill I beleive. Hopefully this mixed income development will be successful. Here's the article that I found:

I beleive this is the development that Westrum will be building market rate housing no? I cansee people having concerns living there given it has no history and the bad reputation of the former housing comunity. and the God awful suburban design of the roads.

Default Housing

Actually I don't think that the design of the roads in the neighborhood will be much of an issue since it will be pretty much a self contained cul de sac area. To be honest, East Falls is not a dense urban type neighborhood in various sections. The buyers who would buy the market rate houses there are people who do want lawns, more space for kids, and not be crowded in. Center City life isn't for everybody. As for design, there's that fine line between interesting architecture and keeping costs down. Unfortunately, much of the interesting architecture you see in the old rows across the city is cost prohibitive today in new housing geared towards working class and lower middle class inhabitants.

you are right, but you misunderstood what I meant. density isn't what I was looking for but more of the city street grid like the rest of east falls. narrower side streets and dead ends have the same effect as winding roads and cul-de-sacs.
