Default Jersey Toms-No More Produce Van?

Last few years there was a produce van run by an older gentleman, (Angelo?) with Jersey tomatoes, sweet corn, and melons who parked at the Getty station at Shawmont and Ridge. Before that he used to park on Port Royal near the CVS. Anybody seen him this year?

I want a real tomato for less than $4.00 a pound, Jersey, Chester or Lancaster county grown that looks, smells, and tastes like a tomato. I do not want a red tennis ball from the grocery store! Where can I satisfy this craving without driving outside of NW Philadelphia. Can't make it to the Friday afternoon Amish market on Ridge. Any other suggestions?

Default I think I've seen him on Domino...

I don't know how often he's there, but I've seen him on Domino right off the Ridge across from the Super Fresh. I wonder if we'll be able to afford ANY tomatoes by winter time.

There's always been another truck on Domino. I don't think that's Angelo but I'll check. I do hope to see Angelo somewhere. His stuff was great.

There are two separate produce trucks. The Domino Lane truck sells lots of fruits and vegatables (not locally produced ) and operates most days of the week. Angelo is at the corner of Ridge and Shawmont on the weekends- he sells the best corn and I think most of his stuff is local. I visited there last weekend.

Default Yes, He's back on Shawmont

Angelo is back at the Getty with Jersey sweet corn and says the local grown tomatoes will be here soon-yesterday I had to settle for Georgia tomatoes but they did have some taste. ($2 for a pound or 3 lbs for $5.) He says as long as his farm connection keeps growing sweet corn, he will continue to bring it to the good folks of Roxborough.

Now if you good folks will excuse me, I need to mix up a batch of gazpacho so it will be well chilled by lunchtime...

Default Angelo's Produce at Getty station

The gentleman's name is Dave and you can call him at 215-482-7831. He gave me his card last year when I had a hard time finding him, too.

Enjoy!
