Default New Paper Coming mid-July

Hi everyone. I've lived in Roxborough for the last 7 years and have contributed to this blog for many of them. The company I work for, Broad Street Publishing, is launching a paper here in mid July. It will be called the Manayunk Star covering all 20,000 homes of Manayunk, Roxborough and East Falls. It will be free to every home every Thursday via carriers. We already cover the Art Museum, Fairmount, Northern Liberties, and Fishtown areas and Manayunk was a hole in the circulation that we are happy to be filling in. Another one of our products is the Northeast Times with 7 zones across the Northeast.

I just figured I'd give everyone a preview of what they'll be receiving on their doorsteps in mid-July!

Is there any way to prevent door-to-door delivery of each issue by default? I can understand doing it once or twice to gain an audience, but based on my experiences with the Roxborough Review, many of these papers stay on the street and end up in gutters, or blowing around the block. When the Review was doing door-to-door delivery for every house on the block, I'd guess that maybe 20% of them were actually picked up and taken inside. All the others stayed on the steps or sidewalk or street until they fell apart and drifted into the drain or someone picked them up to throw away.

If the paper is good, I'll sign up to have it delivered but if it isn't something I'm interested in, you're just increasing run costs and wasting resourced on a paper that I won't read and will put into recycling when it hits my doorstop.

Thanks for the advance notice. The Review will finally have compitishun. Maybe this will motivate the paper to improve their syntax, grammar and spelling. It's editor's can sertenly do a better job then they are doing now.

Would they be interested in a contributing photographer?

Thanks for the heads up! Will we be able to advertise? Any contact info?

Thanks, again!

You can call our corporate office at 215.355.9009 if you wish to be removed from the distribution list. It's a free paper that goes to 100% of homes; which is different from the Review, which is a subscription based paper. From time to time I have seen the Review force delivery to 100% of homes and then send a paperboy at the end of the month to collect the money. Reason being, most people feel bad turning down an 11 year old kid for a mere $1.50 and it boosts their revenues even though you didn't call and subscribe.

Our paper will be more modern and progressive than the Review - I think you'll really like it.

Father Jim - if you'd like advertising information, the Senior Advertising Account Executive who is assigned to this paper is John Lehman and he can be reached at JLehman@phillynews.com. Shoot him an email and he'll respond with all the info and pricing you need.

Thanks!

What makes you think it won't be a throwaway rag like the Metro? This is corporate America, after all. Or maybe it isn't. Hopefully it isn't.
