Default The crummiest bar?

What in your opinion is the crummiest sleeziest dirtiest joint in Roxborough / East falls / Manayunk?

Peck Miller's seems to be one.
How about DiLeo's?

Other entries in this list?

If the Cresson Inn is the one with the sign that says "Where the Real Yunkers Drink", then it gets my vote as crummiest looking.

Well, Dawson's Street pub is a pretty dirty, grungy place... but I still love it!

Default Fancy Face Lift

Pop-pop's just got an exterior makeover. Stucco, paint and stone facing. At least from the outside, grandpa's bar is looking at lot nicer.

DiLeo's gets number 1 for me - my friend almost got jumped for walking in there. He tried to leave and they actually tried to lock the door so he couldn't get out. Murphy's next to D'allesandro's gets second crummiest. I went in there once and saw some seriously shady characters and the bartender looked just as shady.

I went in Peck's one time for take out- there was no one in there but the bartender was very nice and it didn't seem so horrible as I had imagined.

I remember a post from PB member recalling a time from their youth (1970's), when they witnessed someone getting thrown through the front window of Peck Miller's while they were walking home from school. That's why the storefront is now bricked over.

FWIW, its seems like Roxborough (and Peck Miller's) is now a kinder, gentler place.

Murphy's is actually really awesome.

Two years ago, I lived up in Blue Bell Hill. One weekend, we had a horrifically bad ice storm. I had class that Saturday and I thought it was cancelled. It wasn't. So I had to wake up and dig out my car.

First, I slipped on my steps and wiped out. Second, my car got stuck at the end of my block. No way it was getting out. I went to go to the trunk to see if I had something in there to help excavate me and my key snapped in the lock. Naturally, I didn't have a backup.

So, I had to wait for AAA and then pay whatever exhuberant price for a locksmith. It was just an awful day. I waited like six hours.

To make things better, my wife and I decided to traverse to the closest bar. Which was Murphy's. They were hospitable, nice and, most importantly, very good at giving me cheap whiskey. They also had decent pizza. Good place.

The place next to the golf course looks dicey.

Dawson Street is a great bar. They have a really good beer selection. T. Hogan's hasn't been nominated yet but is okay. They have really good wings.

My favorite Rox bar: Henry James Saloon.
