Default old bar @ ridge & manayunk

In the spirit of all of the postings about houses/bars in the neighboorhood, my wife and I have been wondering about this place. It looks like an old bar, it's right on the corner of Ridge and Manayunk. It looks like they've been doing construction inside for the past few months, but no sign on what it will be.. any ideas?

I think you mean the old Fat Edna's on the corner of Ridge and Terrace.

The owner of the bar has filed to turn the space into mixed use commercial/residential. He has told the local association that he is planning on selling his liquor license and has apparently refurbished the 2nd floor into aparments. At least one of those apartments is rented out according to anecdotal evidence. The civic is voting against his proposal because we have no proof that he will actually sell the license and because he has shown no consideration for the neighborhood in terms of his other rentals and the overall quality of the tenants he's allowing into his properties. We'll see what happens.

Default the old fat edna's bar

You people are mistaken, my boss, who buys and develops a lot of property in the manayunk area, and is working on a big project coming up on Terrace Street, has been in contact with the owner of that building about selling it, and the liquor license as one total package. The owner has refused my bosses' offers because he said he made promises to his neighbors in the area that he would not open back up as a bar and is trying to get the building re-zoned first.
I know that if he doesn't get the zoning, he has verbally agreed to sell the building and the liquor license to my boss,(who has more money than God!), and who is interested in opening a pub/cafe on that corner.

Is that the Terrace Court condominium project? your boss may have more money than god but apparently what they say about brains not following money is true. What possible reason could your boss have to develop condos in this market, especially in the Rox/Manayunk area?

The bar used to be called "Getty's" back in the day.

The bar used to be Cheese's and then Fat Edna's. Both bars were notorious for catering to loud rowdy patrons who commonly brawled and dealt drugs. It was not a nice friendly "pub".

As for the "niceness" of a new bar or pub, probably half the houses on Vassar are rentals. More and more of Dawson is turning into rentals. Each rental brings with it between two and four cars parking in an already congested area. The guy who's building Terrace Court wants to add even MORE cars in condo units that are basically designed to be bought as rentals. If you put a nice "pub" in the area and plan on drawing from outside the immediate 4 block neighborhood, people will drive to the place and take up spots, denying residents parking near their homes.

Why do you want another pub/bar? There are (within a 6 block radius) at least four to six different bars. Main Street is a short walk away and there are loads of bars. At what point do you people want to just turn the area into one big frat house? If you don't want families living in the area and you don't want property values to go up and you don't mind the area turning into an even bigger dump cause of all the tranient residents who don't care about anything except where's the nearest beer, then just put a sign up at the entrance to Main Street saying so.

You have it backwards; Fat Edna's came before Cheese's.
