How does this solve anything unless you limit each household to one permit? I can see why you'd need it near Main because of the retail/restaurant parkers, but in other areas it seems pointless, esp. on streets where there are three times as many cars (owned by homeowners) as spaces already. Seems to me you'd end up with nowhere to park at all if you had to look very far from home, perhaps in someone else's permit zone.

I believe it does limit the amount of permits you can get per household, plus you can get a temporary visitor permit.
I believe the real target of this permit program are the individuals who park Thurs-Sat night to go to the bar down on Mainstreet. I'm all for the permit program |

The proposed permit parking area is adjacent to Main Street. That area is heavily impacted by late night patrons of Main Street.
Other areas are heavily impacted by transient renters that don't license their cars in the neighborhood. And, yes, there are just too many cars. There will only be one permit parking zone. You may have to park in an area without permit parking but you won't be blocked by another zone. Permit parking will not solve the parking problem, it will only offer some relief. |

Yunk, you're in for it now.

Yeah, I am actually surprised that this didn't spur more discussion. This is a pretty controversial topic...
I am all for parking permits, though I realize it isn't being contemplated in my area. I am tired of illegal renters (again, illegal, not renters!) with five or six cars per home taking up parking spaces that are more properly for those of us who actually (gasp) follow the law, pay our taxes and register our cars properly. I think the people who complain about the fees are short-sighted. These are the same people who will pay $25,000 for a car but won't pay $35 to park it for A YEAR. It would help a lot in our neighborhood. I hope it goes over well in Yunk's neck of the woods so that it will trickle down here. |
