I voted for punching you all.

Just kidding. I have no problems with parking, so I can't weight in on the subject.

Pug,

I was expecting the "sorry I punched you" from you, but what's with the "no problems with parking". Did your thorazin just kick in?

All the angst in the other threads and just a "no problems with parking" here?

What's up?

Parking is outta hand, but I have somewhere to put my car and I use public transportation or walk 90% of the time. The whole over developing of the area is crazy when there is no infrastructure in place to accommodate the influx of new people and their cars.

That is the reason I speak up. No one cares, especially the developers, builders, and lessors, because they don’t have to put up with the headaches. They have money going into their pockets and none is put back into the area. This is the truth and it’s been done before by the same people. They suck up all that they can and then head to the next source.

Manayunk and its renaissance was a nice thing, but now it’s being destroy with over crowding and ugly building projects. The locals are just as guilty as outside developers and lessors, however the outsiders have more money and connections than “joe lessor” trying to rent out his three story apartments/house.

Some people say I’m too quick to judge, but show me I’m wrong and I will eat my words.

Sorry, somehow missed this. Many folks who live in Rox/Man area actually register their cars in other places, like NJ or relatives' homes in other states, to get lower insurance rates. This is annoying on a lot of levels, not the least of which, as mentioned other places on the forum, means that when one of these folks smacks into you, it's nearly impossible to collect on insurance (ins companies will maintain that the registration is improper, thus the car is not actually insured and will refuse to pay). This happened to me - driver's car was improperly registered in Virginia - it took more than a year to have my medical bills paid and I was a passenger!

when your a resident of PA, registering your car in another State is against the law. It does not matter if you own a home say at the Jersey shore, your car must be registered at your primary residence.

Right, in fact didn't DA Abraham launch a controversial (among offenders) crackdown a few years ago which included arrests of violators? I seem to recall it involved surveillance of cars with Jersey plates parked in Philly residential neighborhoods. Actually, I think the controversial part was that the DA's office accepted a grant from an insurance industry group to fund the enforcement push.

Jayfar got it right. Big grant to do enforcement for the insurance industry.

Default Permit Parking!

I can't tell you how many times I've had to drive around looking for parking and just missing a space because the Main Street visitors occupying the car in front of me took it first. How is it I know they were visiting Main Street, you ask? Because as I continued my seemingly endless hunt, I'd cross paths with the couples as they walked, then turned onto Main Street! I'm all for permit parking and will try to coordinate the effort here. We are on the west side of Green Lane, from Main to St. David's or above. It certainly won't solve all the parking problems, but it will help. I've only lived in the area since December, but am becoming increasingly aware of the "methods" some will stoop to for reserving a space in front of their homes. Besides the obvious brick ladden trash receptacles and fake cones, people resort to using one car to hold two spaces! I doubt permit parking will eliminate this! It's very annoying.

Oh, and I vote for a "Fresh Fields" on Main Street so I can walk to the grocer and not lose my parking space!
