Default What to do, how to meet people?

Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I just moved to Philly a few months ago and live on Henry Ave. Now that our apartment is painted and furnished, parents have been to visit and winter is over, we're finding ourselves bored. We don't know anyone in the area! Can any of you suggest some fun activities or places we can go where we can meet some cool people?

We're not overly sporty but not lazy, either. We both really like live music, chill pubs or bars, good beer and wine, baseball, camping and all that fun spring/summer stuff.

Shout back if you have any ideas of fun things we can do so we're not lazy on the weekends and maybe make a few friends while we're at it.

Cheers,
LeeAnne

Some cool bars
Dawson Street Pub
Union Jacks

Both places are realtively calm and off the beaten path (compared to Main Street).

Many local bars in the area sponser softball teams if you into that sort of thing.

The Bike race in June is cool too.

Come to a PhillyBlog happy hour. The next one is discussed here.

We're really pretty normal when you meet us in person.

That sounds like it could be really fun for both of us. It's generally hard to meet people at a bar (although I will check out the ones posted above) because you arrive and leave in a group. An event for a bunch of peeps from a board/blog could be perfect, though.

Wouldn't you know, that's the one night we have plans. We're going to see a musician by the name of David Ford--who is fantastic, by the way.

I'll keep this in mind for May, though. That will even give me some time to post and get to 'know' some people.

Default Henry James

If you live off Henry Ave, you may want to check out the Henry James Saloon. I think it's off Jamestown. My wife and I go for dinner once a week, it's a pretty good place.

There is an open mic at Buckets in East Falls on Saturday nights. Everyone is pretty friendly there. Plus there is good music.

Default coffee houses

the coffee houses are a good place to meet people as there is often live music or performances (crossroads on ridge ave) or art exhibits and a bike culture (la colombe or mugshots on main street)

also, the manayunk sport and social is a great way to join a local volleyball, kickball, softball or football team...all coed and recreational...they have a ton of events and I have made quite a few friends from my participation

the phillyblog meetups are cool......get a dog, their is an entire dog subculture here (as is cycling and music)
