Actually, the first post WASN'T from a first-time poster. It appears that they've been a member for almost a year and have made 20 posts.

Regardless, the responses to the initial post remain valid perspectives on the advantages of the Philly Sport & Social Club and the varied negative experiences with the Manayunk Sport & Social Club.

Trying to invalidate their (including my) perspectives is a cheap way to try and make your league look decent.

Default i love the mssc

i think the mssc is awesome, i have played in all their leagues. i have also played in thw pssc and their leagues are also good but if want to have fun and meet people the manayunk league is the one to join. i don't like the bayou that much because i am a little older but you still can play in the mssc and get all their benefits without going there. and alicia options are like a-holes everybody got one

Default Mssc

Sorry for I look at the wrong post at first. Unity007 my fault for calling you out like that. I was looking up theamblerbishops file who only has one post. As for you, AlissaMichelle, you can have your opinion. It is America and you are in titled to it. Though I strive to make our leagues a good experience and do in my best efforts to keep it that way. I am an original member of the neighborhood and I was born at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in '83 if you want to look up my records. The MSSC league is beneficial to the community and unlike the Philly Sport and Social Club and i will do what is in my best interest to keep it here. If anyone does have a concern or would like to talk about changes please fill free to email me at liam.wynne@usasportandsocial.com or call 267-972-7665(my cell). I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thank you and a have wonderful day,
Liam Declan Wynne

Sorry to disappoint you Liam , but i have never worked for PSSC.

If you're going to call me out, then you better get your facts straight.

1. PSSC is much, much larger than MSSC. It's not even close. MSSC football has a total of 65 teams, PSSC has over 150. MSSC soccer is not even in the same ballpark, PSSC has about 75 teams, MSSC has 10. Hockey - PSSC has 20, MSSC 10. MSSC does have about 10 more basketball teams. The softball leagues are comparable.
2. Your statement that MSSC is a third of the price of PSSC is also false. PSSC admittedly is more expensive by approximately $10-12 per person, counting MSSC's ref fees. However, MSSC is clearly not 1/3 of the price.

3. As for the bankruptcy issue, bankruptcy dockets do not indicate a filing by PSSC. Moreover, i have played one sport or another with PSSC for the last 9 years and never heard of any financial issues.

In short, do some research before you start spouting off purported facts. It hurts your credibility.

Good luck "dominating the marketplace".

Big thumbs up to MSSC!! I have played in numerous leagues.. its freaking $25 a person and you get a free drink after every game and a 2 hour open bar! So they don't keep up the website?? um, its co-ed sports, not the nfl.. get over it and have fun.

Default Both stink
I highly recommend Philly Sport and Social Club. Been playing football with them about 12 years and the guy that runs the league now, Tim Horan, is very organized and good with communication even as the league has grown tremendously. No idea about their dodgeball league though.

www.phillysportandsocialclub.com
Both of these organizations suck and let me tell you why:

1) Tim Horan of PSSC is nothing short of the biggest a-hole I ever ever encountered in any facet of life. He is short power obsessed little man who probably has to compensate for a short-coming somewhere else. HOWEVER, he does run an orgnized league especially compared to MSSC.

2) Existing teams are clearly favored in all aspects. Horan will accommodate his "known" individuals especially when he has to be a "sub-in" as an official.

3) They have a rule that "ANY rule can be changed at ANY time by the commissioner (Timmy boy). SO basically rules change to accommodate the will of the league.

4) Timbo once tried to FINE our team for an illegal player then threaten to never let us play in the league again. This after another player was allowed to play on three teams in one league. This is for fun not the freakin’ major leagues. Guess what Timmy we are still in your league … aren’t we sneaky :>)

MSSC

A) Horribly organized, we once had a softball game canceled due to a Carnival on the filed. They called us at 10:30am for a NOON game! What was it a surprise carnival?

B) Signed up for a Mon/Wed league at Belmont Plateau ended up being a Tues/Thurs league in Chestnut Hill!

C) Liam is great with e-mail if you e-mail him directly, god help you if you have to deal with Tony. He's an idiot but at least not a ***** like Napoleon err Tim Horan. The MSSC website is never updated.

D) The ump/ref fees are a hidden cost.

All this being said I STILL play in both leagues for a couple sports. There really are not any alternatives so pick your poison, decent guys who are horribly organized or wee little Timmy and his big bad oranized league.

liam your league is very good for the community

I have played for many teams and I think its a great asset for the area

all locals living and playing here makes the area more vibrant and its great to see volleyball games, softball, kickball, dodge ball and basket ball and hockey all being played locally in rox/yunk

makes me smile all the time

it means our community is alive and it puts people on the streets and coffe shops as well as contributing to the local economy!!!

makes our area more desirable

great job liam and thank you

Default A couple things

Liam - As someone who played in PSSC during the financial issues and still plays, your post is a bit misleading. From my recollection, which is based on something that happened 11 or so years ago, the original owners of the PSSC league/name had financial issues. The brother and sister who worked for them assumed ownership or "started" a league with the same name, fields, etc. I believe it was then bought out by the Chicago-based Sport and Social Club. Regardless, IMO arguing where the league is based and bankruptcy are non-issues. The Chicago-based SSC is huge with leagues all over the country. Based on the current success and size of PSSC, which is much larger than MSSC, I don't see any financial difficulties.

As to the other poster, yes, our teams have argued with Tim from PSSC and he may play favorites, but in general, he is a nice guy who has a lot of people to try to keep happy. PSSC is well organized and has good communication.

I have not played in MSSC, but have friends that have. There are a few reasons why I have chosen PSSC over MSSC, aside from how this current thread was handled by Liam by claiming PSSC marketing ploy is to trash MSSC which, ironically, is exactly what he just did. Many years ago, MSSC sent a bunch of girls to hand out flyers at PSSC games to recruit the PSSC away from that league. A bit underhanded to me. And the major thing is the social aspect of PSSC. In MSSC,alcohol is not allowed on the fields, unless that's changed. With PSSC, at the Fairmount Park fields many teams bring beer and grill food to hang out on nice days. Its one big barbeque and a great way to spend a Saturday.

theamblerbishop-

if you have been playing in the PSSC for as long as you say you did. Then why don't you remember the Original PSSC who had a office located on Belmont ave and them skipping town with people's and bar sponsor's money. Maybe they didn't claim bankruptcy but they sure did leave without refunding money back. The Bayou Bar and Grill was one of those sponsors who were never paid back and especially when the went to the office and found that the PSSC went back to Chicago. The Bayou sponsored a team called the Bayou Bombers for hockey. When the PSSC left town, the owners of the Bayou did see a oppurtunity to keep the leagues going, because players and teams were coming to them to keep leagues alive. Which is why we now have the Manayunk Sport and Social Club. We are a non-profit organization which helps out recreational centers and united way buildings in the community. I know things might be unorganized but we work are hardest to keep the MSSC in Manayunk.

Magatoni and ggggg- Thank you for your support.

efphilly- We have not change our rule about alcohol on the field because we use rec centers were children are around and such. I am know I am being a little harsh but, I am defending what I do and I take it to heart when people tear down a good thing. This is my full time work.
About the MSSC staff recruiting people from the PSSC that never happened. Although the PSSC has done it to us especially last fall with our soccer people.

This offer is for everyone: I would be more than happy to help anyone with anything about our league and I would be delighted if you join and see some of the changes that are being made. I will be delighted to give you a discount on a team or sign you up as an individual. I will make it my promise you will have a good experience. I am here for the community and for our members.

This is my first post - so please no one think I'm a double secret agent for PSSC...I'm not!

I'd have to agree with the comments about Tim's poor attitude and behavior. I once watched him "punish" a player for questioning a call he made. When it was the player's turn to bat, Tim started calling pitches over the player's head "strikes" and when the player protested, he kicked him out of the game saying something like "I can do what I want because it's my league." Totally unprofessional and one of the main reasons I joined MSSC.

While I have to admit that the folks at MSSC are much friendlier, after I joined MSSC I started receiving lots of marketing propoganda about the Bayou. Yes, I know MSSC is affiliated with the Bayou and I should come to Bayou, hang out at the Bayou and spend my $$$ at the Bayou but it really crossed the line when I started getting text messages on my cell phone! At least with emails I can just delete them. Text messages cost me money! When I joined, I thought I was providing my contact information so that MSSC could get a hold of me on the off chance there was a spontenous carnival on the ballfield NOT so they could exploit my information for advertising their bar!
