you don't know pug very well do you? ;-)
how about the turnover on cresson? everything seems to be going belly up, except sorrentino's thankfully. I do have to admit I never much liked volpe's.

Cadillac Tattoo is planing on moving to the corner, the nice building with the big windows at the end of the ramp from the train station. He's coming to our March 2 meeting.

Good luck with that one . . . not exactly an upgrade to anything.

With so much traffic on "M" street these days, I bet some wish they could have reversed their decision.
I think that's an urban myth. There actually isn't a subway line anywhere near Georgetown. The real reason they enver built there is that its too swampy. The only way they could have run a line there would be under M Street and then up Wisconsin Ave. but that would only give one stop in Georgetown and would still require digging very deep (to avoid the swampy mud) and a very sharp turn up Wisconsin. They figured it wasn't worth the cost. Keep in mind that when the Metro was planned in the 60's, Georgetown wasn't the fashionable place it is today and they probably would have welcomed a subway stop (other more fashionable places in DC did) but WMATA found it too expensive and back in the 60's Georgetown wasn't seen as important enough to justify the cost.

You had me there for a moment.

Actually, the swampy area is south of M Street, in the area that GW and State Department. M Street is fine.

When you get to Wisconsin, you probably could make the turn and head out Wisconsin. Trouble is, you would have had to tear up a major thoroughfare for months on end.

And as for Georgetown - it was, in fact, much more "high toned" during the planning phases of Metro - filled with Kennedys, Harrimans, etc.. You're mistaking Wisconsin Ave. for "Georgetown."

I suspect the hoity-toits didn't want their streets torn up for two years, didn't want the riff-raff coming into their area, etc. And God knows, they didn't take a subway or a bus.

BTW, I lived in DC during most of the construction phase around DuPont Circle. You do not want to live near subway construction - no way, no how. It screwed up Connecticut Avenue for the years. Everytime I hear one of the folks hear glibly say something like - oh, just build a subway up Ridge, etc., I shudder and realize that they don't know what they're talking about. :rolling_:

chris, no pain no gain. Wisconsin could certainly use a line. it's horribly congested and if you've been on ridge you'd know there aren't a whole lot f businesses there now. moreover, I realize it woudln;t be fun but it's selfish to say that you wouldn't sacrifice two years for decades of gain. so is this why you love busses so much? go back to DC and use the metro. it's actually faster to catch the metro into town and out than catch a crosstown bus many times.

I mean the place is being over build and congested. I don’t mind some development, but when you throw up two ugly condos (bridge 5 & water mill) and plan to add more on Venice Island, you are not doing a service to our neighbor, but looking for personal gain and profit.

This is typical of these “types”, who come into an up-in-coming area, say change is for the better, then over develops, which drastically changes the area.

Maybe I don’t understand you because I grew up here and all of you seem to be from somewhere else, trying to fit in middle class neighbor because it is “chic”. I am always open minded and will listen to everyone’s opinion and you to some likewise listen to me. But please speak up if you disagree, I won’t cry.

You don’t know me but we share the same neighborhood, which I truly care for

I've walked from Foggy Bottom to Georgetown...it's about a mile to Wisconsin and M. I'd say that's relatively close.
