Good luck with that one . . . not exactly an upgrade to anything.

You had me there for a moment. Actually, the swampy area is south of M Street, in the area that GW and State Department. M Street is fine. When you get to Wisconsin, you probably could make the turn and head out Wisconsin. Trouble is, you would have had to tear up a major thoroughfare for months on end. And as for Georgetown - it was, in fact, much more "high toned" during the planning phases of Metro - filled with Kennedys, Harrimans, etc.. You're mistaking Wisconsin Ave. for "Georgetown." I suspect the hoity-toits didn't want their streets torn up for two years, didn't want the riff-raff coming into their area, etc. And God knows, they didn't take a subway or a bus. BTW, I lived in DC during most of the construction phase around DuPont Circle. You do not want to live near subway construction - no way, no how. It screwed up Connecticut Avenue for the years. Everytime I hear one of the folks hear glibly say something like - oh, just build a subway up Ridge, etc., I shudder and realize that they don't know what they're talking about. :rolling_:

chris, no pain no gain. Wisconsin could certainly use a line. it's horribly congested and if you've been on ridge you'd know there aren't a whole lot f businesses there now. moreover, I realize it woudln;t be fun but it's selfish to say that you wouldn't sacrifice two years for decades of gain. so is this why you love busses so much? go back to DC and use the metro. it's actually faster to catch the metro into town and out than catch a crosstown bus many times.

I mean the place is being over build and congested. I don’t mind some development, but when you throw up two ugly condos (bridge 5 & water mill) and plan to add more on Venice Island, you are not doing a service to our neighbor, but looking for personal gain and profit.
This is typical of these “types”, who come into an up-in-coming area, say change is for the better, then over develops, which drastically changes the area. Maybe I don’t understand you because I grew up here and all of you seem to be from somewhere else, trying to fit in middle class neighbor because it is “chic”. I am always open minded and will listen to everyone’s opinion and you to some likewise listen to me. But please speak up if you disagree, I won’t cry. You don’t know me but we share the same neighborhood, which I truly care for |
