And the places with patios and outside spaces are all on that side of the property. This isn't a problem on weekends thank goodness. But mornings are a real problem. |

I'll be in Manayunk eight years in June. I still really like the neighborhood, although the traffic and noise level has increased within the past three years. There's really nothing you can do about it.........as I mentioned in my other post it's the city. I got used to it. You should consider moving maybe to a more tranquil section of Philadelphia, although you will not find a place that is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Also, East Falls is experiencing growth. You can expect the traffic noise and other things to increase over time. |

I've lived in a city most my life. I lived in Germantown for years. I lived in NYC before that. I have my office at 16th and Walnut. I love the city. I know what it takes to live in the city. I know what to expect. I'm not complaining about general noise.
I'm complaining about dogs barking beginning at or before 7 am non stop until after 9 am. Waking me up. Geeze. It's a nuisance. BTW. The construction is on the property. The staff here are very considerate about noise until after 9am. Last edited by ste!!a : 05-30-2008 at 06:07 PM. Reason: error |

I am not a dog lover and I feel your pain (I like kids). May I suggest either a white noise machine or earplugs? It must have been a real disappointment to go from horses to a cacaphony of barking. I do support having the dog facility there, though. Maybe there are websites out there explaining what can be done to prevent the dogs from becoming so excited early in the morning. I thought that one of the selling points of those apartments was that they are dog friendly.

. Sometimes the dogs at Paws barking sets off the normally quiet dogs. It's a chain reaction. Its the nature of dogs and the problem -- they like to talk to each other. Problem is they don't know how to use quiet voices. The Paws thing is a catalyst. The dogs coming to Paws are excited from the moment they land. Susan that owns the business is the professional and she will have to work it out. I wish Paws no ill will. But they need to figure out how to keep the dogs calmed down. Maybe they need to change their hours. They need to do something. BTW the horses were really wonderful beasts. Beautiful and they didn't bark. I love my loft. I love my art studio. I enjoy the company of my neighbors. I was pretty darn happy. So what would you do if a doggie daycare moved into the house right next door and the dogs woke you up and then barked for hours? I appreciate your suggestions. I already keep my windows and upstairs balcony shut at night when I would enjoy the breeze. If I leave it open I'll wake to the dogs without any muffling of the sound. Dogs can hear on a different wavelength from humans; it is a long shot, but maybe you could buy something that emits a sound that makes the dogs want to stop barking. It is sort of like the machine I want to build which shuts down the engines of people who drive like idiots so that they don't get the opportunity to kill themselves or others - the military already has a prototype but it has a range of only a couple of feet, so it is not very effective (yet). Anyway, this imaginary machine would emit a sound audible to dogs but not to humans, but it couldn't be painful to dogs, because then they would howl. Maybe it would be soothing, like music, so that they want to be quiet the better to hear it; you know, music soothes the savage beast. If it doesn't exist yet you have the opportunity to invent and perfect it, with the perfect laboratory. Then you can be rich and famous. You can even make a small handheld device, like a tv remote, which when pointed at a dog causes it to instantly stop barking. They would sell like hotcakes - make sure you patent it. They are already available for cellphone users.
