"There is no debate." ... maybe not for you, but I find a whole lot of people with a lot of different ideas, often based on drawing lines that allow them to claim Manyunk citizenship.

This map doesn't quite follow the boundaries of 19127 as it is. I live a couple houses west of Umbria and Fountain, which lies outside the above polygon, and I have a 19127 zip code. Of course, there are a variety of 19128 houses that are a marginally shorter distance to the shops on Main than mine, and quite a few people would probably call those houses In Manayunk while more or less excluding mine.

I've seen several different maps with different ideas about the zip code. One that I'm looking at now (http://maps.huge.info/zip.htm) has 19127 going up no higher than Silverwood and Terrace. No matter how you slice it, there's not a lot to this zip. It looks to be about 1/10th of the size of 19128.

The classification wars do seem a bit silly though.. it's not like we're talking about 90210.

Don't know much about bodies in dumpsters but anyway getting back to this thread,

I always thought Manayunk went all the way up to Ridge. I can't be the only one.

I s'pose Manayunk Ave. makes a logical dividing line but so does Ridge.

PS: A body in a dumpster is really likely to be found. Not a good spot to dump a body.

Ooh, Spinach, I beg to differ with your classification (as would many of my neighbors). Wissahickon includes the area closest to the park, bordered by Ridge and the train station. My street, Rochelle, is definitely considered Wissahickon - and the zip is 19128, as is Sumac, Kalos, Osborne - and the park side of Lauriston and Dawson. Your map has Righter as a divisor - not so!

(And yes, I would much prefer to be Wissahickon than Manayunk - and I like Manayunk).

Lawmummy's right. That area is Wissahickon, not Manayunk. And I'm never sure about that whole thing about Rox. Ave being a boundary, which means the line goes up to Ridge. Manayunk Ave. or even Silverwood have been named many times as the dividing lines and it seems to me that anything farther up the hill really has more connection to Rox than to Manayunk and the whole main street scene. I think realtors are REALLY stretching the perceived boundaries. A while back I met someone who'd bought a home between Ridge and Henry near Gorgas Park and was firmly convinced he was moving to Manayunk. His home had been listed as being in Manayunk and he didn't know enough about this area to realize It was clearly in Roxborough.

Myself and the detectives I work with have been doing this all week. We have been successful in the fact that we stopped several males in the Drexel area and had one identified as the male robbing the students by 33rd St.

A few years ago, a police offcer wore plainclothes around 47th and Walnut St and was robbed. What ensued was a police shootout and subsequent apprehension. It's risky but usually provides great results.

This sounds like a good idea for the area around Main St.

Sounds like solid, proactive police work.

Based on recent crime stats, it would seem that just walking around after midnight has become an extrememly high risk behavior. This is just seat of the pants, but if you guys went out in CC and its surrounds at around, say, 1:00 a.m. for a couple/few hours you'd be guaranteed some action. Just look/act like a yuppie who's had a little too much to drink.

I was told by a longtime resident that the cut-off for Wissahickon into Roxborough is at Hermit Lane?

Hermit Street is the most restrictive border. Other possibilities are East Street and Walnut Lane. Hermit Lane is wholly in Wissahickon.
