Default good movie theater

Anyone know of a decent movie theater in the Manayunk/Roxborough area? I know of the big cineplex by the Manayunk Diner but it looks pricey.

If not, where is the closest theater that offers tickets under $8?

The United Artists next to the Diner is $7.25 matinee (but is definitely over $8 at night). The only thing cheaper I know of is the movie theater on 69th St in Upper Darby, which is something like $5.50 matinee.

If you don't have a car you can take the 65 bus from Roxborough to 69th St. It usually runs pretty frequently

There's two movie theaters in Plymouth Meeting, one right on Ridge Pike. There's also the Bala theater off of City Line that plays more arthouse fair. The Ambler Theater in Ambler isn't that far off and is the best moviehouse in the area.

If you want to watch a movie in near-peace, go to Plymouth Meeting. The theatres in and around Philly are...not quiet.

Why is it that most of the theaters in and around Philly are more restless than those outside the city limits??

I like the Bridge on Penn's Campus right on Walnut Street.

When you buy your tickets, you get an assigned seat, which are very comfortable, and they have a bar/restaurant with the theater. Also, when you see a movie, they validate your parking.

Default Movie Theaters

The movie theaters in Plymouth Meeting are fine, but I am partial to the Bala Theater. Its on Bala Ave. just off of City Line.

Default coupons!

The really cheesy badly designed local magazine that comes in your mailbox.. i forget the name of it, but it gives you these xeroxed black and white coupons for local stuff. look through that! they give you a $6 coupon for the united artist main street movie theatre for anytime use. I've only received one so far, but keep your eye out!

Don't know, but I don't think that the Main Street cineplex is as bad as the Riverview or 69th Street theaters in terms of boisterousness (technically 69th Street is the 'burb's, but in spirit it's basically an extension of West Philly).

Sometimes the restlessness adds to the moviegoing experience. A friend and I once saw "Freddy vs. Jason" at the Riverview on a Friday night. We were the only white people, and just about the only people over the age of 20. Man, the theater was loud with people screaming at the screens. It actually made a pretty s*****y movie kinda fun to watch.

Getting back to the original topic ... The Ritz theaters are fantistic for artsy stuff, but they'll also sometimes play some semi-mainstream films. If you're looking for a Hollywood film then I don't think you'd save any money by going to Plymouth Meeting instead of Main Street. If you're willing to pay $1~2 extra then the Bridge is worth the extra money in terms of a really nice theater.
