"The development of new businesses and housing has turned East Falls, a tight little community tucked hard on the east banks of the Schuylkill, into a hot real estate market....
Is this renaissance good for the Falls? Is East Falls trying to become the next Manayunk, its next-door neighbor?" Read the rest of the Inquirer opinion piece. |

Did you all know that they are putting about 150 million in residential, retail, and restaurants into east falls in the next 18 months? This article also speaks of some local politicians who call east falls home.
Anyone here from east falls? I was surprised to see how much (and how quickly) development has progressed on the homes being built on Ridge avenue. http://www.bizjournals.com/philadelp...13/story2.html |

You mean to say that a community where a bunch of local politicians live, is suddenly becoming a hotbed for development? Hmmm, how could that have happened?
Interesting how quickly it has happened though. |

Sherman and the community association are plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit seeking to ensure that the Philadelphia Housing Authority create a mixed-income community at the Schuylkill Falls site.
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/n...al/4103030.htm This quote is the key to east falls - the Philadelphia Housing Authority and east falls groups have been in negotiations/lawsuit for over one year in an attmept to resolve what will be built in east falls. The whole issue has been very contraversial - if you know the location of the site and the character of the future development of east falls, a public housing project doesnt seem to make sense. Some have made the argument that PHA should have sold the site to a private developer and used the proceeds to develop more low income housing at less valuable sites in the city. |

Yep, they wanted to extend Main Street down to my lovely hood. No. We don't need this, nor do we want it. Heck, the yunk lifers I know didn't want it in the early 90's! Falsers have to take a stand. East Falls isn't a "tourist destination". I gotta talk to this Gina Snyder broad...she must live on Penn St or Warden Drive (aka: the rich folks Conrad street.)

Nobody has ever talked about extending Main St. to EF...just making "Downtown" EF cleaner, safer, with more commerce and parking for residents so they don't need to travel all over the place. Check out the "East Falls Reconnects to the River" plan - the Development Corp. has copies.
