Default Our car was stolen last night

We parked it on Green Lane (between Manayunk and Ridge Aves, as a point of reference) last night as usual. Some stupid jerk decides to smash the passenger window in the wee hours of the morning and take it. We're not hopeful that we'll see it again, but just as an FYI for people in the area....

I'm very sorry to hear that, kathryno. There's nothing I hate more than theives. I wouldn't give up hope of seeing your car again. My car was stolen about 2 years ago, and it turned out to be rash of local kids taking cars for a joyride. I was lucky and my car was found a block from my house. Another woman wasn't so lucky - her car was found totaled after it was in an accident with a school bus and the kids whole stole it ran off.

Again, sorry to hear about this. Auto theft is usually an anomoly in our neighborhood, but we should keep our eyes open as the weather gets warmer and punks have less to occupy themselves with.

Our insurance company said there's a 60% chance it will be recovered, but even if it is, who knows what state it'll be in.

Those are pretty good odds, Kathy. Most of the time, the @#^%$ thugs who steal cars get caught because of their sheer own stupidity.

Case in point: We had a brand-spankin' new Honda stolen from the airport about ten years ago, and the moron who took it got caught because he was speeding. So we got lucky and it was returned to us pretty much unscathed -- except for overflowing ashtrays (gag) and rap CDs strewn all over it (double gag). The a$$hole was probably en route to the nearest chop shop.

Even though the car was recovered within 24 hours, I think, it took away all the joy of new-car ownership for me, as I felt violated.

Just another downside to car ownership -- you're vulnerable to thieves. Sigh!

Good luck.

I hope the car is recovered, with no to minimal damage.
I had the same car stolen twice. The first time it was dumped behind a friend's house, who didn't realize it was my car and called police. She said thieves would take cars to this lot, wait a few days and then torch them. The second time the car was stolen, I noticed it 10 minutes after it disappeared and went out looking for it. I found 2 thugs driving it. I chased them and they bailed out of the car. Both times the ignition was popped, but no other damage to the car.
Think positive. Your odds are a little better then you may think.
Good luck.

Thanks all.
We're not sure if we even want it back if it's recovered - like Oladybug said, I don't imagine that it'd be in the greatest condition if it's found...

The worst part of this all is the rental car we got - people keep rolling down their windows and laughing at us! It's the silliest little car I've ever seen! 29 days until we can recover the insurance money...and counting...

My car was stolen once. The car was older and I was very tired of it, but couldn't justify buying a new one since it still ran beautifully. The closer I got to that insurance check, the happier I got -- I started looking a new cars, deciding what I wanted, happy to be rid of the old one .... until the car was found in a vacant lot in West Philly, two days before the insurance company would have cut me a check. Even worse (kind of), the car was in the exact same shape as when it was stolen, except for the broken window and popped ignition, so I couldn't even get a new paint job out of it. Needless to say, I was much more upset that it was found than I was that it had been stolen.
