Sorry to hear. Fortunately, you have insurance (unlike 60% of the people in Philly) What car?

Kathryn,
That's awful to hear - I hope it's recovered. I was wondering how you know they got in by smashing the passenger window? Just curious, I get worried about my car a lot.

Of course, I don't know, but my guess would be that she saw broken glass on the ground on that side of where the car was parked. When my car was broken into a while back (not here in our neighborhood, but another part of town) they got in by destroying the passenger side door lock and then completely gouged up the ignition trying to start it. It's probably so they don't have to stand in the street or open a door into the street while stealing the car -- it gives them a bit of "cover" maybe (?). They didn't succeed in stealing mine, btw, but they did over $1000 worth of damage trying. I think maybe they were interrupted since it wasn't that late at night and just fled the scene. The door was even left open.

You win what's behind door #3!

Of course, we don't know that it was the front window - it could have been the rear one. But there was glass allllll over the place.

Chances are it was the rear one, only because those are usually easier to break through.

---Shosh (had enough windows broken to know)

This is how mine was done.

My car wasn't stolen, though. There were scratches all over the steering column and ignition, and once they figured out they couldn't steal it, they just ripped the stereo out.

It did require several hundred dollars for a new door, new stereo, and some cosmetic work on the dashboard.
