I'm moving to Roxborough this weekend!
What do you love about the area -and/or- what is your favorite thing to do for entertainment in the neighborhood?

I love walking/jogging/hiking in Fairmount Park - Forbidden Drive & Kelly Drive...it's absolutely beautiful & very historical.
I love lunching or dining al fresco on Main St & splittin a bottle of vino. I love how much character the steep hills give the landscape. It's like a mini Frisco. I love getting off 76 at Belmont & pity my friends who have to sit on for another hour to get thru Center City. |

LOl that is one of the things I hate most about manayunk, having to wait 1000 minutes to get through that light that only lets 6 cars through at a time. |

I like the safety, the "neighborhood" feel with kids playing outside and the neighbors who know each other, and the good access to transit to all kinds of locations all over the city. Plus, a regular middle-class person can still buy a house here without some insane mortgage, even on a single income, if they have a decent downpayment saved. And the lower car insurance rate helps. I kind of think it's the best kept secret in Philly!

gravenewworld,
You are absolutely right about that horrible traffic light at the 76/Belmont exit. It only lets about 4 cars through before it changes. Knowing this, half the people who get off there turn right instead of joining the line to turn left to Manayunk, then turn around in the nearby gas station or convenience store parking lot and double back toward Manayunk. I have tried it a couple times. It really is faster than waiting at the light. Something really needs to be done about the way that intersection is engineered. |

If there is more than 10 cars backed up, I go for the turn around and it's faster most times!
Though what I hate more than that light are the a**holes who drive to the front of the right lane of the ramp, but don't turn right toward Belmont Hills...INSTEAD, they try and turn left by speeding in front of the left lane of rightfully waiting cars. There is always a near accident & you can always tell when someone's doing it as their car is facing straight ahead instead of angled to turn right. JERKS! |
