I have to agree with this. While going low-card isn't a bad things, people shouldn't be replacing bread with bacon and lard! I know of people on Atkins who eat steak for breakfast!

Isn't it the responsibility of the individual to check with his/her physician before embarking on any major diet?
Everything I've seen about Atkins warns people to do this - as do most other diets. I know folks who have done very well on Atkins -lowering both their weight and cholesterol levels (and increasing good cholesterol levels). Next some one will sue McDonalds. :?

Haven't people already sued McDonalds? Yes, I do agree that people should consult their Dr's before starting any diet so I see where you are coming from with that. Sure the suit is silly but maybe it will have people see how harmful Atkins can be.

No one is supposed to stay on Atkins or other diets forever. But, I think it is wrong to say "how harmful Atkins can be." without pointing out that any heavy duty weight program can be dangerous over a long haul.

Thinking about this more...I do think that a lawsuit against the Atkins Camp is dumb and a waste of time and money. Kinda like people suing cigarette companies for giving them lung cancer, right? Honestly, I think all "diets" are wrong...people need to learn better eating habits and need to exercise, which in my opinion is the only way to become healthy. However, I still think going heavy duty Atkins is bad. I have never read the books but do they have any of the harmful things that could happen to your body from being on this diet?

Goggled his name and came up with this:
http://www.bestofneworleans.com/disp...-04/feat5.html "Six months before the diet, Gorran -- a non-smoker who has a family history of heart disease, including a sister who died from it at age 59 despite a low cholesterol count -- had an excellent cholesterol level of 146. " Hopefully the attorneys will discover this little nugget before this suit gets settled. |
