really cool. My irish family switched to lutheranism some generations ago, but I've always been fond of the irish way of life through catholicism. I certainly don't wish to denegrade anyone, but in my life I've learned things from irish catholics who truly had a firm affinity for their religion and never took their life lessons for granted. Then, of course, the kitchen changed and a connection to such virtuous mentors became fewer every year.

My wife is italian/catholic, and coincidentally some of my closest friends are in relationships through an equivalent irish/italian cultural and religious coalition.

A small note:

One of the defenders of St. Philip Neri was Edmond Booth.

"I certainly don't wish to denegrade anyone.." - alesis

Did you want the word 'denigrate', Sir?

(lol - thought you were a lady at first, see you're married. Alesis would make a nice female name..Alessis, Alexis...nice)

- Whiz Kid (50's Phils fan, not the kids' game show, BTW)
Raised Irish catholic, family also married into Italian American 'community'
WhizKid, once a diner with Royal Family Sheik(h) - a.k.a. King of an Island Nation - THAT kind of leader.
Sorry for the interjectory Spell-police note, SwiftLyons, et alia...

now back to interesting thread on Philly history.....

Wow! You caught me misspelling a word after I was up for about 28 hours working and then subsequently barhopping with employees! You are a bright whippersnapper, aren't you?

Alesis is also a name of an music company, whose speakers and mixers are in my recording studio.

Whizkid makes a good gender neutral name that makes a great antonym for you-it has a similar effect as a 400lb. behemoths being nicknamed "Tiny".

You had to interrupt this thread with the attempt at impressing me that you dined with a sheik while pathetically speaking about yourself in the third person? I could give a f%ck less. You already told me once, and I plainly told you that my dinner card this week alone was more impressive than any you could postulate from your life experiences.

You can go now go back and impress someone else because it certainly won't work on me-especially when you so childishly try to take over someone else's thread just because you can't take a joke.

Wow! Were did you get the info on that? Was he one of the people that was picked out of the mob surrounding the church? Or was he one of the original parishioners guarding the church?

His name is on a list of defenders of the church at PAHRC. Now, I should add that the co-worker who told me this said that he is not sure where the list is right now, but if someone wanted to come in and do the research they could find it.

Here's that print in color or something close to color. The original print is in the Free Library - Print & Picture Dept.

You can see St. Philip Neri in the upper right corner.
