Default 4th of July in Philly - There is nothing like it!

There is no place better to celebrate the 4th of July than in Philadelphia! Keeping that in mind, where do you go and what do you do to celebrate the 4th?

Obviously the fireworks over the Art Museum are a given, but what about before and after?

WAVING AMERICAN flags made in China. Eating more ice cream than you ever dreamed possible. Sitting in a traffic jam after the fireworks. Staking a place along a sidewalk for the Independence Day parade. Waiting in long lines to use Porta-Potties.

If all this makes you want to dash out of town, it's time to brush aside your cynicism. As hokey as they might sometimes appear, many of Philadelphia's Sunoco Welcome America! events are a lot of fun.

I discovered this one hot July Fourth. I had plans to get out of town, but a reporter was needed to cover Welcome America! so I got stuck with it.

It turned out to be the best July Fourth I'd ever had - from the Liberty Medal luncheon to the Independence Day parade, followed by a Smokey Robinson concert in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It was nonstop fun. Since then, other July Fourths have paled in comparison. (Even last year's, which I spent at a huge barbecue at boxer Evander Holyfield's mansion.)

I'm leaving for Yellowstone National Park today at 5. that would be 20 min. It is a 36 hour drive. I will return on the 7th. Hope you all enjoy the holiday week. It is fun in Philly next week, but give me the mountains over the heat and crowds anyday, just not everyday.

Safe travels, Zog.

You'll be missing the Constitution Center opening, though ... rode by there in the cab this evening. All the international flags are hanging in the atrium and with the lighting and all, it was just beautiful. I hear there will be a tour of it on ch 6 the day before its opening.

However you'll spend your holiday, enjoy!

what the hell are international flags doing in our constitution center? isn;t this about the US and commemorating the document that has hamstrung our government from becoming what it is for a while? Or are they state flags?
