Default Remarkable video! John Facenda and the '63 Mummers parade.

http://www.nbc10.com/video/3900289/index.html

Although this video is short and is cut off in mid-report, it is still incredible. The legendary John Facenda doing a brief overview of the 1963 parade.

Priceless!

Good find Chef. John Facenda was 'the voice' of Philadelphia. Great to hear him again.

Wow! I don't ever think I've heard a Mummer say, "I'll never march again." Especially John Fralinger.

We all say it! Every year!

Fralinger fell from 6th to 7th place in 1963. Add that to Quaker City, Fralinger's sworn enemy and neighbor on 1900 3rd Street, winning that year and I am surprised Mr. Fralinger was not more acrid then he was.

WOW. Am I supposed to care? Why do people from Philadelphia insist on living in the past?

John Facenda was the voice of Philadelphia TV and radio much the same way as Harry Kalas has been for sports.

I still miss his voice doing the narration for the Christmas Light Show in the Wanamaker's Building. That voice over just isn't the same, sigh.

John had a great, soothing voice. It was a family tradition to watch him report the news. Another favorite TV personality was Tom Snyder who actually hosted a local show in Philadelphia called contact and was also a news anchor back in the 1960s . Thanks chief for providing the link to the 1963 coverage of the Mummers parade ... Just that clip gives a viewer of the talent this man possessed. It took some time for the video to start playing on my computer but when I last clicked on it opened pretty quick now. Just one of many wonderful traditions of Philly past and present.
