Default PZEV (low emission) cars and PA

It seems that PA is becoming a PZEV state?

I am looking at purchasing a new Ford Focus for my new commute and it appears that all PA Ford dealers only have the 132HP PZEV model. I know this is good for the environment and all, but the non-PZEV models have 140HP. When you aren't dealing with many horses to begin with that could affect pickup.

So my question is: Can I purchase a non-PZEV version of the Focus in Maryland or Delaware and register it in PA?

1. Why not test drive both the PZEV and the regular version. If you don't notice the difference then don't worry about it?

2. You will need to check with the state (PA). According to the PA law, vehicles need only meet 50 state or California emissions standards, which the regular focus does (according to Ford's documentation). I believe that the state may have separate requirements overall emissions averages for vehicle sales by a manufacturer which causes Ford to only offer the PZEV version here. So, in short, as long as the vehicle you buy says "50 state emissions" or "California emissions" you should be OK....in my opinion.

Per PA DEP
(http://www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/deput...s.htm#motorist)

"If I buy a new vehicle at a dealership outside of Pennsylvania, will I be able to title and register it in Pennsylvania? Only if it is certified by CARB for use in California or for all 50 states. Dealerships in neighboring states may stock CARB certified vehicles even if that state does not have similar requirements. PennDot will not title a model year 2008 or newer vehicle that does not comply, unless it's purchase meets one of the limited exemptions ."

Thanks Tim. I looked high and low for that info.

The Ford Focus's in NJ are "50 State Emission" cars.
