Okay, now I just want to play devil's advocate...
Until 10 years ago, none of the cars I ever drove had airbags, I never wore the seatbelts, or shoulder harness, if they had them, etc. but I never had an accident, so I never got hurt.

I also used to skateboard before people really wore helmets and pads, and while I did fall, I didn't end up in a coma or even with broken bones, but I suppose if I HAD been wearing gear, I'd have assumed it was because of that...

How do I know that a flimsy piece of plastic would make any difference...just because someone DIDN'T die, etc., and they WERE wearing one? Think about it. That's not actual proof. Are there any kind of studies that prove I'd be a vegetable or worse without a flimsy piece of plastic, or just hearsay in which people tell me that they feel safer with one on?

Don't take it the wrong way, I am not knocking anyone for wearing one, or for telling me to do so, I am merely trying to see if anyone has any other reason other than that.

I just wanted to get people's opinions, but oddly, it seems that, for the most part, none of the many, many people I see that don't wear helmets aren't posting about it.

Once again, as posted the first time...proof

Okay, now that I've been reading the "testimonials" on that link above, I'm nearly convinced. Between that and the other stuff my husband has been similtaneously digging up, like this one this site, http://www.cyclehelmets.org/mf.html#1027 , I am coming to the conclusion that the helmet isn't going to do me much good and that the hard skull I was born with will either survive if I fall or it won't whether I'm wearing one or not.

I hope that doesn't make anyone here try to hit me on purpose if you see me somewhere....

Whatever fag, I'm not wearing a bike helmet.

Here, buy me an expensive one and I'll wear it.

Just that one time with unprotected sex can get you infected and just that one time without your helmet and a car hits you and you're dead or a vegetable.

Practicing safe sex is the same principle as wearing a helmet just one has been way more emphasized. Think of it as practicing safe biking

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

I'm pretty sure that whoever wrote that is suffering from brain damage as well...

That site talks about how many cyclists who wear helmets have experiences in which they feel the 'helmet saved their lives,' and it says that,
"This is a very common experience - very much more common, in fact, than the actual number of life-threatening injuries suffered by bare-headed cyclists."

I find that to be pretty accurate, since, before I posted this question, I only knew ONE person who'd EVER had a bike accident, and he didn't wear a helmet, and NOW, I know of SEVERAL people who have had, or know of someone, who have had accidents, all of whom are helmet wearers.

So I now know of many more helmet wearing cyclists who've had accidents than non-helmet wearers...maybe helmet wearers ARE more prone to accidents! lol

If you don't wear a helmet, you need (or will need) to have your head examined.

Let's stop talking about rights and start talking about responsibilities.
