Default Cadillac Escalade is Number 1 - What A Steal

The Insurance Institute of America has posted it's new statistics on what cars get stolen most . . . and what cars get stolen least.

Number 1: The Cadillac Escalade EXT with an average payment per vehicle insured year of $302 and an average loss claim paid of $14,939.

Nissan Maxima was number 2, followed by Cadillac Escalade, Dodge Stratus/Chrysler Seabring, and Dodge Intrepid.

Least stolen: Buck LeSabre, followed by Buick Park Avenue.

http://www.iihs.org/news_releases/2004/pr101904.htm

Question (from a non-carowner): Is comprehensive theft insurance a flat premium . . . or is based on value, etc. In short, do Buick owners subsidize Escalade owners.

Hmm..usually the year of the car is important...I recall that the Camry was high on the list for years and people warned me against getting one...however, it's like years 1990-91...because they're so popular they're stolen for parts.

Honda dropped off the list also. It seems the year and make of the car is related to expensive parts which come with, or are optional. For instance, the Cadillac Escalade model which has $10,000 spinning wheel upgrade is found often up on blocks with just the wheels taken.

Default escalade

I always thought that it was the imports that was most likely to be jacked. I didn't think that Cadillac wold be like that. Personally, I liked the first version of the Escalade, with the Euro-type lights, the classic Cadillac shield on the grille, the streamlined chassis. It used to be the best SUV, in my opinion, along with the Chevy Tahoe, and the GMC Yukon, now they look just plain ugly, and I stopped looking at them. I don't know who designed them, but I guess that dude who did it was probable high on cocaine and angel dust. Pity for GM, for they're pretty much losing the domestic battle against Ford and Chrysler

Repeat my question of the initial post?

Is comprehensive theft on an auto a flat charge (per car) or is it based on the value of the auto. Thus, do Neon drivers subsidize Escalades and Hummers.

It's based on the value of a car. It depreciates over time, as should your insurance on it. (Obviously this holds more truth for a newer car, because it will decrease rapidly over time.)

Interesting facts:

2003 total sales (Escalade EXT) 11,256 units
2002 total sales (Escalade EXT) 13,494 units

To put that in perspective... 373,214 Ford Explorers and 413,296 Toyota Camrys were sold in 03.

Awwww yea.

actually wandered, cadillac's CTS and Escalade's have been runaway successes...which is why they are stolen so much. the car of choice for many a rapper. not only that, but GM cars are superior to Ford and Chrysler (why are they still in business anyways?) in terms of quality. It is the only American car maker in the top ten let alone the top five (Buick and Caddie). Buick, also a GM car, is the least stolen b/c it doesn;t appeal to the right market. It's not a hot car although they are extremely reliable. I have a coworker still driving a century with 235,000 mile son it.

So happy to hear that our Honda Accord will no longer be even near the top of the list. And we've been working on making it city-crappy so that it'll be less attractive to potential thieves...you know, not cleaning it out more than twice a year, leaving all the dings, scratches and dents from various encoutners with uninsured Philadelphia motorists...that sort of thing.
