Default Good excuse for R6 suspension yesterday

Daily News explains why the R6 took so much longer to restore service:

"R6 Norristown trains were halted when floodwaters swept a garage onto the tracks."

That has to be the most unusual valid excuse for a service outage (if you don't count the time the El was suspended for a dog running along the tracks). I'd have been a little more amused if I hadn't been waiting at Spring Mill (where the electronic sign didn't mention service suspension, only "Have a Nice Day / no information available") for said train Sunday morning. Thankfully, septa.org's trip planner feature came through for me in the end.

I saw footage of really bad flooding on the Today show. They reported it was just outside Philly. Anyone know what area(s) got so much rain that people had to be rescued from their cars?

I think Overbrook Park for one example; that's where the firemen found their own truck submerged after they finished rescuing someone from a car. And one of the papers mentioned 5 inches of rain in Darby Borough (some areas only had 2 inches).

My neighbors didn't get stuck but had to veer off of Ridge Ave onto Manayunk because a large rock was being carried down the Ridge by the "river" which had formed. Amazing part is it was all gone by 10.

Upper Darby got hit worst, from what I saw. I'm sure that anyplace near a creek had trouble. They really should purchase as many of the homes in the path of Cobbs Creek and be done with it.

I saw pictures of Main Street, Manayunk, under water - again. Did Venice Island flood?

Good question about Venice Island. I'd be curious to know that myself.

Parts of Darby were devastated - only the rears of cars were visible, sticking slightly out of the water as they floated down the street. Darby always gets hit hard.

These rain storms are insane. And now we may have a tropical storm headed our way. Enough!

Thank goodness for that, since I didn't know until AFTER I'd already driven to Plymouth Meeting (around 3pm) that I-76 eastbound was closed. I took Ridge back into the city.

Speaking of the rain... Did you see the nastiness that was the Schuylkill River? Yuck! Nothing but a film of hot garbage on top.

Venice Island didn't flood but some of it was washed away. A strip near the Green Lane Brige, that was illegally filled in a couple years ago, washed away. Prior to the fill, there had been a creek or spill in that area. Now a new spill has been created next the the bridge.

That pipe didn't work! It will be interesting to see what 'they' do next.
