Default Scooters!

So everyone if you like old vintage Vespas you will LOVE the stella scooter.. check out www.skytopscooter.com they are awesome.. and not very expensive. I personally think they could be a great thing for Philadelphia.. cheap on gas.. and you will look cool too. I hear that skytop is having this great event on Feb 29th with entertainment, beer and fun... anyone interested in meeting up there?

we just got a new vespa from vespa philadelphia in Manyunk. my husband really wanted a vespa because of the history. the people working there definately have the we're cooler than you attitude. maybe it's just manyunk. they're opening another store at 9th and south in the old krass brothers building that's going to be a combo coffee/scooter shop. the place on passyunk doesn't sell vespas, they have other scooters from india, italy, and asia. much cheaper than vespas and zero attitude. haven't been to skytop scooters in fishtown. they're selling stella scooters, also cheaper than vespas, they are new but made to look old. nice if you want that 1950's Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday look.

parking a scooter in philly: as of right now there are no laws on the books regarding scooter parking. you can park it basically anywhere on the sidewalk (just like a bike) as long as you're not blocking traffic.

note to all the short chicks out there: don't buy a vespa and make sure you test drive whatever scooter you are thinking about. I love the vespa but will never be able to drive it because it is too high for me. my feet don't come to the ground. get a smaller size frame if you are under 5'3".

welcome to the world of scootering mod_grl. what type of vespa did you end up getting... and et2, et4 or the gt200? if you guys want someone to ride with let me know as i ride a lot, probably 3 times a week or more when it is nice out.

a word of advice, someone in the hostile city scooter club recently got a parking ticket recently in old city for parking on the sidewalk and locking up to a parking meter so be careful where you park on the sidewalk.

It better warm up soon! :cussing:

mod: congrats on the purchase. Please get comfortable with the bike before you go putting around during rush hour. Drivers do not respect people on bikes. I see a lot of people on scooters without helmets....Im not sure if this is the trend, but I advise against such riding. Riding a bicycle without a helmet is once, thing, but a bike that goes 35+ mph and is in the street with cars is another story....

This is how I do it...however it may be overkill for a quick scooter ride across town

we got the ET4 in pearl. it's very sexy with it's brilliant white curves and big round behind.

I think it is a matter of WHERE you lock up the scoot. As in DO NOT block or impede sidewalk traffic, doorways or the ability to open car doors. Old City on Fri/Sat nights is just madhouse so park somewhere off street.

Congradulations on the ET4, white is a good color on those bikes! If you guys ever want to ride around C.C. let me know. Have you joined Hostile City Scooter Club? We are having a rally July 2 - 4 here in town, go to http://www.hostilecitysc.com/

The shop on Passyunk doesn't carry Vespa, but they have several other makes.
