Workshop on Attracting Songbirds to your garden
Saturday, August 2, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Hansberry Garden & Nature Center (HGNC) in Germantown will host a free workshop on attracting songbirds to your yard or garden. Marilyn Reynolds from the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society (PHS) will lead the workshop.
Leafy green Germantown, with its many trees, parks and open spaces, hosts a great variety of beautiful songbirds. Species such as chickadees, wrens, goldfinches, cardinals, bluejays, catbirds, grackles and mockingbirds bring a rainbow of colors to our neighborhood, along with their cheerful calls and songs. They also help control insect pests such as mosquitoes and Japanese beetles.
Don’t know what these birds look like? Would you like to have them visit your own backyard? Even without a yard, there are ways to get a look at these lively and cheerful little beings, maybe as close as just outside your window.
Enjoy a summer morning in lovely Hansberry Garden. The garden is located at 5150 Wayne Ave. in southwest Germantown. You’ll learn what plants provide food or cover for our feathered friends and what seeds can help them survive the winter. Some lucky participants will take home a free bird feeder and seed.
