Default The guy with one big dread in CH

Hey Chestnut Hillers, you know the guy who has one large, long grey dreadlock on the side of his head, and sort of mutters to himself a lot and wanders all over CH? Anyone know his story? Just curious. I'd ask him myself but I always seem to see him when I'm driving by or busy.

He's a somewhat comforting presence to me for some reason. When I see him wander by, I know all is right with the world.

Default I saw him today and felt the same curiosity!

How funny, I must have driven by right when you were in Chestnut Hill. He was picking through a trash can..... sad!

My family calls him hairball. Haven't seem him in a while, although I did see Laddy hanging out in front of BoA the other day. He was the one who always hung out at Wawa until it closed down.

I was told that he is actually from a pretty well off family in Chestnut Hill and that he lives on an estate in a room above the garage or something (I am totally serious).

I've seen him weeding through trash cans a few times. I'm more interested in the guy who always seems to be drinking milk and smoking a cigarette on benches while wearing two hats. I saw him try to pay someone for a carton of milk and I really would like to talk to him and try and help him out.

Are you an ACSW, or better -- or trained clergy? If not, I doubt you could really help.

No offence, intended. I just know from personal experience how difficult it is to reach people in these kinds of situations.

I don't mean that kind of help. Just a few meals. The guy never bothers anyone. He stays on his bench and keeps quiet. He's the kind of homeless guy people don't mind and it obviously pays off since people want to buy things for him without him begging.

I heard the exact same thing. I have no idea if it's true or not.

I saw One-Dread sitting outside of the Borders on Saturday morning, smoking a cigarette with a very shaky hand. Maybe it's just me, but seeing him wasn't comforting or make me think that all is right in the world.

My questions are how long has that dread been growing, how much does it weigh and does he walk with his head tilted to the side?

I rarely go to CH, but the two times that I have been there this year I've seen this guy. Every neighborhood has one. In PSquare we have the guy who hangs out in front of Dunkin Donuts/CVS and naps on the grass in front of Acme or on the wall across from Geno's. His endearing trait is that he can't keep his pants from falling down. You guys are lucky to have one "One Dread", at least you aren't treated to a show of vagrant meat every time you take a walk in the hood. He does have one thing in common with our guy, you can still smell him from 10 feet away.
