Default Wayne Junction Train Station

Couple questions about the Wayne Junction train station. Checked previous threads about the station and none addressed what I needed.

Due to a recent switch in responsibilities at work I have to travel to an office outside of the city from East Falls. For the most part I will be commuting by car but with rising gas prices would like an alternative.

The problem is I would need to connect trains in order to catch the R5 thus making a commute from East falls close to an hour and a half total. Wayne Junction is a 5 minute (2 mile) drive and seems to be the best alternative commute since I would go directly to a connecting station. Although I have a few question about the station:

How is parking during the day? Safe? or do break in's occur often?
Does the station have a parking lot(Septa's website states "na" spots)?
Is the street parking limited to hourly?

You might want to try taking your bike. You could take it on the train with you as you would be going against rush hour. It would even be cheaper to buy a junk bike and leave it at the station than to drive. I have taken the R bus from Henry and Midvale to Hunting Park and Clarissa, then walked the four blocks to Wayne Junction, but it is a desolate stretch, and a bus passed us as we were walking, so you would probably want to make the connection.

Wayne Junction can be accessed from Wayne Avenue, and I wouldn't be uncomfortable leaving my vehicle on some of the streets off of Wayne Avenue north of the station, as they can be quite nice. Thus you would have a short walk if you want to drive to the train, especially in inclement weather.

Unfortunately, there's no SEPTA lot at Wayne Junction. You're looking at street parking. There are no time limits that I'm aware of on any of the streets around Wayne Junction. I do see a fair amount of broken glass around there, though, and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable leaving my car on any of the streets directly adjancent to Wayne Junction. (As billy ross suggests, the nearby residential streets may be a better bet).

It is not going to help you in the coming year, but a lot of new angled parking on Windrim is part of the design for the Wayne Junction redesign. Like all train stations, Wayne Junction is being used more and more because of the new interest in mass transit. That means that there are more people moving around which helps make the site safer, but that will also probably make finding a parking spot near by more difficult. I would give it a try. Just don't leave a lap top on the front seat!

Um, quick question,
which direction on the R5 do you need to go?
Heading to Lansdale or heading to Paoli?

Which station do you need to get to?

Hal

Lansdale.

There aren't any direct trains from EF leaving only connecting trains elsewhere and Wayne Jct. is the closest in route R5 station.

You could take the R6 six minutes to Temple and connect to the R5, but there would be a layover for the connection.

This was my first consideration although it can take around 1 hour and 36 minutes where as driving to Wayne Jct. only adds 10 minutes to a 40 ish minute train ride.

Ah, that makes more sense now.

Well, I think you may have another option- grab the R, 1 or 60 bus on Ridge near Allegheny, hop on the Broad Street Subway, to Fren Rock, then catch the R5 at Fern Rock..

Otherwise, Wayne Junction is the closest station.

Failsafe if R5 is out would be the R6 to Norristown, then 96 Bus from Norristown to Lansale,
rush hour it's way to long, but not so bad on off hours.
