Default microbrewery? pub?

today i enjoyed my favorite sunday evening activity, i went to a local microbrewery pub and had the beer special of the day (a lovely ginger beer) for $1 and half price specialty wings (spicy asian curry). as i sat there i thought "i sure hope there is a place like this in philly".

so where's your favorite place to sit at the bar and enjoy a beer and a snack while watching the game?

it would be an added bonus if i won't get heckled TOO much when i cheer for my beloved Steelers.

now i'm going to duck and cover and await responses

McMenamins is my favorite place in the area to have a beer and watch sports. While it is not a brew pub, it has an extensive list of draft and bottled beer and awesome wings and the whole menu is way above average for a bar. Lots of High-Def TV's, good crowd, and a great way to meet the variety of people that make up Mt Airy.

Philadelphia Weekly voted it the 5th best bar in the city and said that it had the best bar food in the city. And guess what? It's right on Germantown Avenue in the heart of Mt Airy.

Up the street on the Avenue a brew pub and brick oven pizzeria (correct me if I am wrong) is opening up soon.

Good luck finding the Steelers on TV around here, unless it is a Monday night game. We live and die with the Birds, so usually every TV is on the Eagles game. Maybe if the Steelers are playing at 1 and the Eagles at 4, you might have a shot as well.

The Eagles and the Steelers don't really have a rivalry to speak of, so you won't get too much flack for wearing your Hines Ward jersey. Just don't think about sporting Cowboy's attire in most Philly bars unless you are thick skinned or have a black belt in karate. Giants are almost as hated and Redskins are not liked, but don't bother us as much.

If you don't become a fan of Philly sports in a few years, I would be surprised. It is much more fun to root with us than against us. You won't find more passionate fans anywhere else.

i suspect i'll start following the eagles and will even cheer for them, but my heart will always belong to the black and gold.

I agree with Rich's call on McMenamin's -- great beer selection and very good pub-plus food.

But Rich obviously doesn't get Steelers fans -- we bleed black and gold for life!

Mcmenamin's is a great bar and the new brewpub is run by the couple that used to run heavyweight, an excellent brewery. steelers fans are only unwelcome when the eagles are playing them. the main rivals are the Giants and cowboys (although everyone hates the cowboys in my experience). there's an alleged heated rivalry between the pens and flyers but I always thought hating pitt is like hating a cousin that you don't know much about.

Well, that cousin you don't know much about just kicked your butt in 5 games.

The teams and fans of the two teams truly dislike each other.

you shoudl hate your cousin because he/she bought a good stock?
It's a nice looking city that seems to have more self esteem problems than Philly.

the Red Wings beat our asses ten years ago because they were a better team. people hated them after that but that's stupid. it's clarke who they shoudl have hated. the entire east was playing minor league hockey compared to the west then. the Pens are a better team right now. If the flyers had somehow pulled off an upset, they would have been embarrassed by another sweep by the wings.
