I'm considering an apt. on Greene Street, between Coulter and Penn. I'm a single female who walks everywhere and will use the train stations at late hours, walk to and from the grocery, etc. I walk with confidence and believe that rotten things can happen any hour at any location...however, I have been warned against renting here. Why? And why is it not safe to cut over into Fairmount Park?

I'd like to know about any neighborhood associations, book groups, etc. that might be in the area.
