Default Moving in!

I hope at least. I currently live in Baltimore and I believe as of tomorrow, my much loved first home here will be under contract and I'll start the process of finding a home in Philly.

I'm very attracted to the idea of Mt. Airy. I'm a 30-something single woman with no kids looking for a friendly, open-minded community.

I've done some preliminary house hunting and according to the map the houses i seem to like are clustered in three areas, hm i think i can just paste in the map...

from what little driving around i've done in the area it seems a lot like where i live now. an area where things change street by street. so i'm looking for opinions on specific streets to look for or avoid. heck, if anyone knows of a wonderful house in the <150K range that's on the market, let me know! if it has a fenced yard i'll do back flips and cartwheels with excitement (my dogs LOVE their fenced yard).

i look forward to learning more about your neighborhood and getting to know the great people of NW Philly!

I'm glad you like Mt. Airy. I lived here almost all of my life and it is a decent place to live. I'm not a an expert on the housing market so maybe someone else here can help with that. Anyway welcome to the board.

Default thanks for the welcome!

can you tell me anything about the area on the map in my post down around Chew where all the houses i'm finding are located?

I'm not too worried about finding a house, but i'm worried about finding a house on the right block!

Default Forrest Avenue

This is my first post, but I couldn't resist your inquiry. I live in what is considered Cedarbrook by zip 19150, West Oak lane by location or Mt Airy by old school. I don't care what you call it because my block is wonderful. There is a house for sale on Forrest Avenue. It's 3 bdr 2.5 bath, backyard and off street parking, the homes are 12 years old. It's small but what I like is it is big enough for me, I am also single no children. This is the best kept secret. I grew up in East Mt Airy 19119 so I am familiar with the area.

I guess your talking about those triangles on your map. You could do better than the houses around E. Hortter st. That isn't the best area in Mt. Airy. Those two triangles closest to carpenter lane are better. On this map the one of the best parts of Mt. Airy in my opinion is the rectangle area that has Mount Pleasant in bold in the center of it. There are three triangles in that area. Of course you need to look in depth yourself before making any final decisions.

Default thanks!

Thanks bfregghi!

I actually looked at a few houses (just driving by) on forrest avenue last time i was in town.

i'm searching the listing for the house at 7600.

yaroze...

i'm prepared to not live in the "Best area" of any area because i don't have a "Best Area" budget! but, i'm okay with being in a "not best" area. i have two large barky dogs, i'm quiet and keep to myself and i think i make a good neighbor. i fondly refer to my current neighborhood as "ghettoburbia". it's not in the ghetto, it's more a ghetto suburb.

okay, so best i can tell 19119, 19138 and 19150 will all return "Mt. Airy" houses? i'll do more looking in the "Mt. Pleasant" box area!

Default Cedarbrook and Mt Airy

Hey Toxigal,

There are 10 houses for sale in 19119 in your price range and 46 in 19150. You will find more options in Cedarbrook, but most of the homes over there don't have backyards. They have garages and a common driveway with the street behind them, but they do have front yards.

If you are not working with an agent already, Email me or PM me if you want me to send you all available listings and have the market update you daily on new listings and price changes.

Congrats on selling in Baltimore and welcome to Philly!

welcome to philly!

i'd encourage you to also look at ardleigh street in chestnut hill. it's just minutes away from mt. airy and it's a great street with lots of homes for sale right now. here's a link to another thread on it: http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/ger...ng-listed.html

it's in transition because the older folks are moving out, making way for younger people, like yourself, to move in

chestnut hill & mount airy are wonderful neighborhoods. you'll love living here -- good luck!
