I've been checking out camps for my two children. I heard that the Flourtown Swim club has a day camp. Does anyone know about the diversity at the Flourtown Swim Club? Are there any African-American parents who've sent their kids there for day camp? I'm African-American and I grew up in Mt. Airy (in the 70's and 80's) and I remember the swim club as not having any African-American members.

I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but a good place to ask might be the Mount Airy Parent Network (Yahoo group): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mtairyparentsnetwork/
There were just some parent reviews of several of the local swim clubs a few weeks ago. |

Okay, I heard back from some of the Mt. Airy Parents Network (MAPN) members and here's what I was told -
Flourtown and Beachcombers are not diverse. However, Germantown Cricket Club seems more diverse than other area facilities and may be worth a look, although no one was sure if GCC is offering a summer camp or just their regular swim options. Here's the URL for their website - http://www.germantowncricket.org/facilities_swim.htm Best of luck! |
