Default Great (new?) Restaurants

Center City-ite looking to broaden my dining horizons by venturing out to Northwest Philadelphia...

Want to try a fabulous (or just new on the scene) restaurant in the Chestnut Hill/Mt. Airy area...if you had to pick one place, what would it be??

I've only been to Cin Cin, Solaris Grille, Melting Pot, Goat Hollow, McMenamin's and McNally's (and I'm talking YEARS ago). Looking for more restaurant than bar for this outing...

Thanks!!

Hokka Hokka, a fairly new Japanese place just before Cin Cin was a great addition to the Hill. I have not tried the new Italian or Cuban places that just opened up on the Avenue, but you should probably hear some replies concerning them.

Speaking of new restaurants -- when does the brick-oven pizza place near McMenamin's open up?

It's not that new, but yesterday we went to SOLARIS at 8201 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill for Mother's Day brunch, and the food and service was fantastic.

not so new except for location, perhaps not fabulous by Center City standards, but you're likely to walk out smiling.

Geechee Girl Rice Cafe

I've heard of Geechee Girl and wondered what it was...just checked out the menu and it looks awesome! I may have to try it...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

If anyone's tried Cuba, let me know what you thought.

Default Cresheim Cottage Cafe

Not a recent addition, but since an ownership change about five years ago (is there another going on?) this place improved tremendously. Every meal that I have had there was outstanding. The key lime pie is better than any that you ill find in the Keys.

I'm a fan of Osaka. The sushi is very good, and worth the price difference vs. Hokka Hokka.

Solaris Grille has been very hit and miss, and their drink prices are high.

I drive a little bit to Maria's on Ridge and Summit for Italian.

I do think GeeChee Girl is excellent, even by Center City standards. Wonderful food, unique concept, great service.

I only wish restaurant prices weren't going up so much lately. Every time I go out to eat lately my eyes pop at the change in prices.

For breakfast, I like Cafette too, and also High Point's crepes although you sometimes have a long wait for the food if they're really busy.
