(which was also included in the Wikipedia article that you must not have looked at before dismissing), it clearly shows Washington Lane as the border of Germantown, so even if Johnson Street is considered the boundary now, it has not always been.
That is all I wanted to say, that it has not always been the border as you claimed. If Johnson is considered the border now, then that is fine - I am in Germantown either way - and I will take you and Jazzcat at your word that it is. As I said previously, I know nothing of the politics involving Mt. Airy USA trying to take over the neighborhood, as you both are clearly (and maybe rightfully) upset about.

All I was doing was establishing facts, and linking to a more respected source to do so. Facts cannot be dismissed solely based on who has repeated them, as long as they are verifiable, as I think an official city map would serve to do.

I did not mean to argue with anyone, though I know that is what I should have expected on a message board.

Because a map from 1854 says something, why is it taken as gospel? I can show you maps from today with incorrect data on them. Should it be presumed that the mapmakers of 1854 did a better job of verifying their maps than the people of today?

Default Germantown boundaries

It all depends on what you mean by Germantown.
The original German Township, as of 1683, was from, basically, what is now Roberts Ave, NE along old Stenton Ave and Wister St., follow the line of Wister St. where it doesn't exist, to what is now Staenton Ave and north to Northwest Ave., west to the Wissahickon, south along the Wissahickon to Wissahickon Ave. to Roberts Ave. This includes the modern Germantown, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill.
There is a map of the original township and borough at the Germantown Historical Society.
The modern Germantown, as opposed to Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill, goes from Wayne Junction to Washington Lane to Wister to Stenton.

The original Philadelphia isn't what it is today, does that mean all those areas now considered Philadelphia really aren't? Things change, we adapt. Germantown was considered to extend to Johnson, then some thought it was classier to say they lived in Mt Airy, usually the people with low self esteem who thought an address would make THEM a better class of people.

Default Boundaies

I just stated a historical fact.
It doesn't mean anything.
I believe that West Mount Airy Neighbors considers Washington Lane as the southern border of Mount Airy.

NOT Washington Lane, despite Mt Airy USA.
Growing up near Chew and Washington in the 70's and 80's. There was a sign on Chew West of Washington Lane that said "Welcome to Mt. Airy" I believe that sign was at Johnson Street as it surely was before Upsal.
