Default What is Chestnut Hill?

The boundaries of Chestnut Hill are:

--Northwestern Ave./city limits on the north
--Cresheim Valley Rd. on the south
--Stenton Ave. on the east
--Wissahickon Creek on the west

I always thought of stenton as being the northern border and Cresheim/Ivy Hill as being the eastern border.

I'd personally turn that picture you painted counterclockwise.

I'm a native Mt. Airyan who moved as a youth to Chestnut Hill Village btw.

Lightbulb No streets in the NW are true N/S or E/W

If you study a map you will see that the streets run on an angle of close to 45 degrees. Bigmall is correct that Stenton is closer to true North than Northwestern Ave, but only very slightly.

I have always thought of G'town Ave running North/South as Sycamore describes, and picture all of the streets as relative to that.

Clearly it would be more accurate to describe it as:

--Northwestern Ave./city limits on the northwest
--Cresheim Valley Rd. on the southeast
--Stenton Ave. on the northeast
--Wissahickon Creek on the southwest

Also there was a lively exchange somewhere on this board about the borders of all three communities in the Northwest. I cannot find it now, but as I recall there was general agreement that the best border location between Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy is the Cresheim Creek.
