Wink Germantown/Mt. Airy Community Safety Group

Okay, so I have been reading all of the Posts about guns, crime, home invasions, burglaries, and the general sense of being angry, scared, and frustrated that thugs can (and do) strike anywhere and everywhere, at anytime and sometimes for no reason other than to have fun.

So why don't citizens here form safety groups in their neighborhoods? With so many decent, responsible people living in our community, is there any reason why we don't assemble, support each other, get armed, train with our weapons, and create a network of support and partnership in which families can feel safer knowing that their neighbors really have their back?

For example, 10-20 men and women in a neighborhood, watching their own backs and their neighbors, would really help people feel safe. See something suspicious? Call 911 and then your neighbor. We could even have night shifts where people roam the community, unobtrusive, and keep and eye out for trouble.

Imagine if every community did this in a city like Philly. It would really change things, I believe. Its not illegal to own or carry firearms, its not illegal to walk around your own community (yet), and its not illegal to protect your family (yet).

I know that America was founded on rugged individualism but sometimes I worry that the sentiment has gone way too far, that we've stopped feeling responsible for each other, even our own neighbors, and that we turn our backs on each other when in need. I'm guilty of it, certainly. There have been times when, while walking down the street, I've heard a scream or a commotion and decided to head AWAY from it, thinking, "Hey, I don't want to get involved with whatever it is!" I'm sure many of us have. But maybe, in this new age of machine gun toting thugs and other psychos, people need to take a new look at what it means to be a community?

Just an idea. I know some of you will hate me for it but it may not be a bad idea.

Here is a Link that details what I am talking about: NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY.

Default No help for specific people

I called the local Mt Airy Safety Committee , the local police, the local community leaders, the papers, when I was being harmed and nobody ever did any thing. Because the "COMMUNITY" wouldn't help me, I've been in the hospital 3 times and am suffering severe PTSD which is why I'm up at this hour. The "Community Leadership" totally abandoned me. There's nobody to trust. I live in terror every moment because I know that not a single city agency will come to my aid. I had a right to public service and protection and was deliberately refused it starting with Ward Leader Vernon Price who influenced the police and the neighbors to turn against me , the Planning Commission who covered up with their deliberate lies and oversights that caused public health harm and City Council.

If you are in the way of their projects or interests they will abandon and seriously harm you and deny you your civil rights and shorten your life without any morality or conscious in order to protect their jobs and their special interests.
