Default Borders rumor rears its ugly head

A letter to this week's CHill Local tosses off this line, "I’m wondering what happens to Chestnut Hill when Borders closes in the near future?"

Does anyone have any current info on this? I'm hoping it's just the old rumor coming back to life with no basis in reality.

Chestnut Hill survived for several centuries before Borders. Something tells me it'll be OK without it. Haven't heard anything about the Borders there closing, though.

Default Thanks....

User: I was aware of this earlier thread, but since it hadn't been updated since last August I thought the situation might have changed.

Neil: I guess I wasn't clear; I wasn't expressing any fear that Chestnut Hill would fall into the sea, I was wondering if the letter-writer had some inside dope on the Borders sitcho. But thanks for sharing.

I have a really bad memory, but I think I read somewhere (maybe the New York Times), that the chain Borders is in trouble and might be bought out (maybe even by Barnes and Noble, who also is not doing that well due to discount stores)Did anyone else read that?

Borders is not doing well financially and was looking for someone to buy the company. IIRC, B&N was thinking about doing so. I heard that in the news about a month ago though, so I don't know what the status is regarding Borders and its financial condition and any potential buyers.
