I live in Center City and am sick of taking my car to the dealer to get it serviced. I have an Audi, so I am specifically looking for a good mechanic that can work on Audi/VW cars that does not charge an arm and a leg like the dealers do.

I've been taking my Nissan to Fred's Mt Airy Motors and recommend them. I don't know whether they specialize in Audi/VW, but imagine they handle all makes. I just took my car there and if I recall correctly they said their current labor rates are about $88/hour. I don't know if that would be cheaper or more expensive than your dealer. They are very honest, knowledgeable and competent mechanics who don't make up problems that aren't there. They even sent me to a competitor for particular work they thought could be better handled elsewhere. 215-247-4513

I had a long time serious problem w/ my Golf that another non-dealer VW shop couldn't fix after 6 or so visits and told me I needed an engine rebuild. I took it to Woodlawn for a 2nd opinion and it was just a frayed electrical wire shorting out my throttle. It's been perfect since. Obviously I go there now.
