Beautiful photos! I haven't been yet, but plan to take my daughter now that it's getting warmer and things are blooming. Thanks for the reminder.

Great shots! My father and his siblings used to play there as kids, growing up in East Germantown, I will send them the link. I am sure the photos will bring back some great memories.

Very beautiful place. I grew up very close to there in the 70s and 80s and went to Lewis School across from the Arboruem. Great pics. Everytime we go back to town, we hit the Wissahickon, this trip I will include Awbury in the trip. I'm sure the Wife and daughter will love it. By the way, I'm the poster formerly known as StateHopper. Born and raised in 19119

I'm pretty sure that's the spot we went through on the White Dog's Urban Farm tour ... I think that's where Weaver's Way has their organic farm set up ....
http://weaversway.coop/index.php?page=the_farm nice pictures .... spring is springing

and you can take the R7 train right to it - get off at Washington Lane Station. It is a pretty safe place to walk, and certainly lovely, as the terrific pictures show.

Please pick up after your dogs if you take them! The site is used by school groups on a very regular basis and also is home to an arboricultural training program.
The surrounding area is a bit sketchy around Chew, but this is one of Philly's great hidden gems. |

Yes, The Chew Avenue/Haines Street sides of the Arboreum are a bit questionable, but the Ardleigh Street/Washington Lane areas are nice. The park extension directly to the west on the other side of Washington Lane is nice as well.

I think that only the neighborhood behind the houses across Chew is rough, but I feel that in the other three directions it is fine. I actually love some of the houses on Haines going south / east immediately adjacent to the arboretum; they are beautifully built, pretty original, and decently well kept.
