Is Chestnut Hill considered the burbs?

While much of it is not densely developed like a typical urban setting, it is definitely part of the city of Philadelphia. Philadelphia has definite boundaries and Chestnut Hill is in the very NW corner basically.

It seems to be treated like a burb (and can feel like one), but it is definitely part of the City. It's boundaries are roughly Northwestern Ave. on the N, Stenton Ave. on the E, Cresheim Valley Dr. and the parkland surrounding it on the S and Wissahickon Valley Park on the W.

IMO, more of a burb than Upper Darby, after seeing both. The limits are what they are though

if it's a burb, it's a model of how burbs should be. It feels different than most burbs but is not entirely different than places like Jenkintown; although I'd say C hill is what J-town aspires to be.

One thing Chestnut Hill has in its favor (and arguing against a charge of "suburban-ness") is how walkable it is. On any given weekend afternoon, Germantown Avenue from Bethlehem Pike all the way down to Willow Grove Avenue is packed with people strolling, window shopping, etc. That, to me, avoids one of my biggest gripes about the burbs: the utter dependence on cars to get anywhere or do anything. Ambler's main drag has walkability but I really can't think of any other suburbs that do. Bryn Mawr does a little but the huge traffic volume on route 30 discourages walking. Anyway, I think that gives Chestnut Hill more of a cozy, neighborhood feel that you don't often find in the burbs.

Nah...I used to hate it that we didn't have a DC address when Lady Syc and I lived in the DC area. I'm not that militant anymore, but as long as we stay here in Philadelphia, we will try like hell to have a Philadelphia address.

We couldn't afford CH this past year...and that might not be a bad thing. I love the Hill, but it almost seems too far from CC to me now that I live near it. I don't want to go any further north/west than West Mt. Airy or Roxborough at this point.

Under the tru definition of suburb - which means SUB URBAN - Chestnut Hill is a suburb. Keep in mind that outside the US people chharacterize areas as urban or suburban indepednent of whether they belong to a city or not. It is recognized that not all areas of a city have to be urban. On a similar note, NE Philly is suburban.
