Default Drinking Liberally, Mount Airy: 8/9/2007

Fellow Liberal Drinkers-

Come and beat the heat w/Drinking Liberally, + join us at the Mermaid Inn, 7673 Germantown Ave., from 7:00 PM until ~ 9:00 PM. Plenty to discuss, despite the crazy, hazy, lazy days of summer...

* Gov. Rendell's Cover all Pennsylvanians proposal to provide every citizen of the Commonwealth w/health insurance.
* The School District of Philadelphia, who will take over for Paul Vallas, + whether the PFT will agree to merit pay.
* Will genuine Good Government reform happen w/a Mayor Nutter? And what would constitute Good Government?

Come one, come all, + leave liquered... unless you're driving,
-Z

Default republican

Sounds just like the republican meetings... Hmmm maybe we all have the same issues?

Side note, I'm a libertarian, both the dems and reps annoy me.

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

The same issues, yes, but not the same solutions. For most of the GOP, the solutions seem to always work out to be the 'invisible hand of the free market,' facts be damned.

Default Dems/GOP

So with that analogy... the dems only want to raise taxs and build support programs so people don't have to think/work for themselves?

Come on, you know that it's very complicated to run a country this big and diverse. Don't get caught up in the political crap, that's what's wrong with the country now. Both sides have good ideas, problem is they can't see past their big ego's. If congress met once a year over , they might actually get along better.

Perhaps, but we have accumulate evidence re: the GOP wanting to do as I have described.

I couldn't agree more. As a matter of fact, one of the things many long-time Congressmen (and women) have said recently is that the decline in collegiality- which could well be described as talking in a civilized manner over a few beers- has hurt the work of governance.

If you're a genuine Lib, I'd enjoy meeting you @ a DL event. Libs and liberals may have more in common w/each other than libs + conservatives do these days, esp. w/the rise of the so-called 'big government conservative.' Funny, I always thought conservatism was explicitly *against* big government.
