Default speeding in Mt. Airy

I live at the top of Lincoln Drive near Allens Lane. Although it is the "quiet" part of the drive, we are continually amazed at how many cars speed by our house, as if they are racing to the finish line at Allens, or starting the race towards Mt. Pleasant. I grew up around here and feel like it got a whole lot worse in the years I was gone. I'm fearful for my kids safety when they reach the age where they will be able to cross the street by themselves, and for my own safety on a daily basis when I'm getting into or out of my car and cars speed by.

I have noticed around Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill, and Wyndmoor, signs reminding drivers to slow down. We got a bunch of them to put up on our block. I know these signs are not the panacea, there are some who will speed until they get a ticket (and then after that too), but I think they do help to some extent. It is easy to speed without really thinking about it, and when I drive by the signs, I do check my speed and slow down if need be. I have spoken to others who do the same.

You can order the signs at www.keepkidsalivedrive25.org I also know that WMAN has become active in the effort to make our neighborhood safer by getting cars to slow down, and I encourage you all to support this effort.
