Default Flooring recommendations?

Hi-

I'm thinking of installing hard wood floors or laminate in my house. Does anyone have any good floor guys they can recommend? Thanks!

Default new floors

Hi,

I'm a contractor moving to the area, Emlen St., most of my work is in Center City. I'd love to come give you an estimate, but...

I would shy away from laminate floors. You will have a floor with a picture of wood that is glued to particle board then topped with a thin sheet of plastic. If you scratch it while moving furniture or a heal comes off and the nail gouges the floor, you really can’t fix it. They sell stuff to try and blend it in, but it will eventually fail.

Hard wood or engineered wood floors may cost a tiny bit more, but will last 10 times longer than the laminate.

Thanks. Fortunately there was wood flooring already under the carpet that we didn't know about. We've already started the refurbishing.

Mainline Floors did an amazing job on our orignal floors and staircase at a reasonable price. They showed up on time, were quick, polite and helpful- would recommend to anyone,

What's a 'reasonable' price, banba (and for how many sq ft?) Do they also fix all the squeeky boards upstairs?

We have a 3 storey 5 bedroom house, about 2200 sq.ft. We did not floor the kitchen. We laid a new floor in one bedroom. The floors that were not in good condition he pulled boards from the room where we laid new board and laid them elsewhere. Yes he fixed squeky boards. He finished the banister, under it and on top also and the kick boards on the stair case. I could not get anyone else to do that.
I believe we paid about $8000 for it in total. However he understood what I wanted done, he did it in tha allotted time and the finished product was great. He was the best conractor that we ever worked with though we have had some bad experiences....
