Question Best Cheese Steak in Germantown

On moving day I wound up at a place called Barry's that I liked. How do they rate compared to other places in the area?

No Idea. I go to Dalessandro's in Roxborough. I'm very happy with them.

I don't know any in Germantown either, but Pagano's on Ogantz Ave in West Oak Lane is good.

Germantown is not the place to find "best of" when it comes to cheese steaks.

Try Chubby's or Dalesandros in Roxborough. Barry's is OK but don't go out of your way for it.

Fatty's on Willow Grove avenue is really good.

I never had that at McMenamin's but i have no doubt they do it well.

Thumbs down The selling of an icon

My wife and I have been married since 2004. My wife introduced me to Dalesandros and I have been eating at Dalesandros since we've met. My wife is a Philly native and introduced me to her families favorite cheesesteak spot. I considered myself to be lucky. It deeply sadend our family when we heard the news that Dalesandros had been sold.

We had stopped by on friday to pick-up some tasty cheese steaks, and the place looked baron. The food tasted the same, that's because the tall asian guy was working there and not someone new. Another thing, what is with the two signs that say, "We have peperonni." "We have meatballs." I mean who cares!!! The new menu is ridiculous, a ton of new crap is added on, and they spelled Wendover St. incorrectly.

I would like to know how much Dalesandros was sold for. If anyone has that information can you please post it on the blog?

Gennaro's on Chelten Ave was the favorite of my neighbors when I first moved to Germantown. Lately I've been really appreciating the pizza cheese steaks from Toto's at Greene & Horter (it helps that they deliver to us!).

The Explorer's Den is at the edge of Germantown (maybe in Germantown?) near Germantown Hospital and LaSalle U. It is an institution. I think my favorite after D'Alessandro's is Jim's Steaks on South Street. Trying to cut back, though. My dad used to take me to D'Allessandro's and I do the same with my kids as a special treat.

My favorite spot is D'Alessandro's on Henry Avenue and Walnut Lane , but I'm reading that they sold it? Rats! I hope that the new owners still make a great CheeseSteak. I've been picking up steaks from there since 1985. Chubbys directly across the street is good as well and Pagano's over in West Oak Lane around Ogontz Avenue and Washington Lane is pretty good as well.

I'm still looking for a decent pizza and/or cheesesteak place in Germantown. It's a mystery to me why both are seriously lacking compared to other parts of the city.

In my opinion, the best steak shop nearby is Chubby's. No offense meant to previous posters but I found D'Alessandro's steaks to be the worse I've ever had. Seriously awful.
