Default What is the Mermaid Inn?

Does anyone know what the Mermaid Inn is (bar, restaruant etc)? I live up the street and I have been curious about the place. Thanks.

They are on the Web. Do a Google search to find out more.

Default It is a bar

that frequently hosts musicians and other artistic endeavours. I don't esp care for it since they don't have a decent glass of wine (or, they haven't whenever I've been there), but if you like good music and beer, you might really like it. Give it a try!

It's a bar that has a very full schedule of live music, mostly in the folk and acoustic genres. They also have regular open circles (like open mic) with a good number of devotees. I'd heard about it but never been until Drinking Liberally moved there after a few times at McMenamins.

They have a modest but tasty soup and sandwich menu and a very nice selection of beers on tap and in bottles. I don't generally look for good wine when I'm not also having really good food, so I haven't looked at their wines.

Here's a link to supplement Noodles's uber-helpful reply: http://www.themermaidinn.net/

Default Good place

I've found the Mermaid to be a very friendly place to hold meetings of Drinking Liberally: Mount Airy. The owners + staff there are quite enthusiastic about our meetings, + even participate a fair amout. Plus, the beers are quite good.

I haven't been there yet, but I've met the owner and she's a nice lady, in a pleasant hippyish sort of way.

They should have a decent beer selection, so give that a try.

They do have excellent musicians that play there. The late Zan Gardner played there regularly.

It is very old school. She got the place from her father and it's my understanding that things haven't changed much.

I know some middle aged Mt. Airy parent types who enjoy hanging out there.

If you are looking for a friendly, no-bs place to hang out with some great music, then this is a place to go to. If want a Old City night club, then it's not.

Default Well, Scoats...

in that case, you really should join us at the next DL.

We will be changing those to every other week until Labor Day, incidentally.

I'll try, but from NE to NW is not the quickest drive, and I usually don't have drink before 9pm. But who knows anything is possible.
